Normally, on our last day, we check out, leave the luggage (locked with regular lock) at the outside baggage station and go on to a park. when we come back to the resort to catch the Mears bus back to the airport, we get the luggage. When Checking in at the airport, we unlock the luggage per airline rules. What should we do now since we will be using DME and they take care of the baggage. I am a little leary about leaving luggage, with all our Disney "Treasures", unlocked at the baggage station. SHould we think about not using DME for the luggage part of the trip home------ just get the baggage from the resort and lug it ourselves for the trip home? Not sure how this will work: esp. if we check out with the airline from the hotel. Or am I being paranoid about leaving the bags unlocked? I just keep thinking about how the airline asks" have your bags been in your possession.....etc"
Thanks for your help!!

They don't ask that question anymore.

I think if you unlock them when you get ready to depart on DME you will be fine. Those locks usually don't stop someone determined to get in your suitcase anyway.

You could buy locks that are TSA approved and leave the bags locked all the way home. If security needs to check your bags, they have the code to open your lock.

If you are using a DME participating airline, when you check your bags at the resort, you are checking them with an official TSA approved vendor.Your bags then get placed into a locked cage, and that cage gets transported to Orlando International Airport. It's the equivilent of checking them with a skycap at the airport itself, just further away.

We had a terrific experience with DME last month. But, I always pack a carryon for myself and my dd to put not only what we will want on the flight but also those 'special' Disney mementos. Anything that I couldn't face losing (or having stolen!) goes in that carry-on. I leave it with bell services, locked, until I'm ready to go back to the airport. Then I unlock it myself and it goes on the plane with me!

Or another option is that you can have your resort ship some stuff back home for you. I found I needed to buy another duffle bag, due to my own stupidity, while in WDW last month. Nice CM at the Marketplace in BC said it would be a lot cheaper to just pack a box and have them ship it home for us....but no, I had to have that rolllng Mickey duffle bag!!!
