We have a 4-nite cruise planned. And, inspired by the recent thread by PrincessVija, on how to maximize time. I am wondering - What if we do not want to pack up our main suitcases and put them out the night before? Is this required for customs/security etc.?

I am thinking - we will probably pack fairly lightly. And, it seems like more trouble than benefit to try to separate out everything that you may need that last morning, etc... As mentioned this can really cut into that last evening on such a short cruise. (This would be Disney Dreams, Palo, etc.....) DH is usually an early riser, and we could easily finish packing everything that last morning.

What are you experienced cruisers thoughts on this?

I was on the Wonder back in March and didn't leave my luggage out - mainly because I had an early flight and didn't want to have to deal with searching for my suitcase amongst the thousands of other bags. I had a small rolling suitcase that was easy enough for me to take off the ship in the morning - it would have been more of a hassle to figure out what I needed for the last day (Cruise Director Jim will tell you a horror story of a man he saw walking of the Magic on the last day in his pajamas and no shoes because he forgot to leave clothes out!).

So...if you feel more comfortable taking your own stuff off the ship - go for it!

Three wks ago my father-in-law came back from a cruise on RCL & had an incident with leaving his luggage out the night before.
He made sure he had left out everything needed for the next day & when he awoke & started to dress he realized that altho he had his underwear, shirt, socks, shoes & belt, he had forgotten to keep a pair of pants!!!
Now, my F-I-L is almost 300 lbs., so it is not easy to find a pair of pants to fit him. He tried to get a pair from the ship store, but they're not allowed to open up in port. No stateroom towel would fit him, so the crew looked around the deck & found a large beach towel & brought it to him.
My poor F-I-L must have been a sight with his shirt, socks, shoes & beach towel walking into breakfast, off the ship & to customs. He said people laughed - but so did he!!!

Thanks guys.....

That story is TOOOO FUNNY!!!!! I can picture this with a couple of 'big' guys in our family... they too would have laughed and gotten a kick out of the whole thing too.... You know, saying they were starting a whole new cruise fashion trend.. LOL!!!!!

Just remember that you would then be responsible for taking your own luggage off the ship. It might be a pain to lug it into the dining room or BBB, as there is not that much space to store any bags while eating. If it not too large a suitcase you should be fine.

We had thought about taking our own suitcases off the ship too. We will only have one each and they are not too big and have rollers. But I was wondering, is the only place that you can get breakfast that morning in the restaurant that you dined in the night before? Do they have a buffet on the deck too?

dclwdwlover, that story had me laughing so hard!!!:D

Do you have to take your luggage to breakfast? We will have the early seating, so I heard that we have breakfast at 6:45   Can we go to breakfast and then come back for our bags?????
