Leaving in 11 days- crazy to add two days?

We are leaving 6/30 for a trip through 7/4. Today I got the crazy idea to add an extra day and return 7/5. The cost of changing our flights is significantly less if we also add an extra day on the front end to make the trip 6/30-7/5. If we add the extra days, the total additional cost would be about $1000 (mostly flight change fees)- and would come with the following restrictions:

1. We couldn't make FP reservations in advance for 6/30 or 7/5 (because need to add extra days to tickets on-site- if I am wrong about this, please let me know!!)

2. We would have to do the first (and possibly last) days at the Swan/Dolphin to stay on points (could maybe do extra last day at WL where we currently have reservation, but website says no availability night of 6/29)

3. No option for Magical Express to/from airport (see #2)

Is $1000 for two extra days crazy based on the above limitations?

There is a standard room available, via the summer room discount, at Wilderness Lodge from 6/29 - 6/30. I just checked.

I recommend staying at a WDW resort, to take advantage of Magical Express, & to make luggage transfer easier between resorts, if needed.

Excellent! When I checked earlier this evening it showed availability for the night of 7/4, but not 6/29. We could probably do one extra night at WL, but not both. Would the first or last night be better to do at WL (vs Swan/Dolphin)? All the rest of our trip will be at WL.

Adding days to a trip is always a good idea! :thumbsup2

I would add WL at the beginning to make DME easier, but others have reported success with Uber or other transfer services. We don't like changing hotels (figured that out the hard way) so factor in all costs including transfers and lost vacation time before deciding whether a night at Swan/Dolphin is worth it. FYI, Orbitz currently has WL available both nights for about $300/nt after their 15% off code JETSETTER.

If you booked your tickets through Disney, you could try calling to add two days. If you can't, depending on which parks you are attending each day, you might want to cancel one of the other days of FP to book the 6/30 FP. After you arrive, go to Guest Services to extend the tickets, then you can book FP for the other two days. Some days of FP are more valuable than others.

For me, the answer would depend on how often you go. If this is a "once in a lifetime trip" and you've got the financial resources, then I'd say go for it. If you're a relatively frequent (i.e. once every few years or so) visitor, then I wouldn't spend $1000 for 2 extra days. WDW is my happy place, but $1000 for just 2 days wouldn't be the value I'm looking for.

Generally I say the more days at Disney the better, but having to change hotels twice in a week would be the big turnoff for me. If I were able to get a room in the same place for the full duration, then I would seriously consider it, although $1000 for 2 days seems like a lot.

Thank you, everyone!! I decided to go ahead and extend the trip by the two extra days. I called Disney to add the days and they told me no availability for standard view at WL. But, HUGE thanks to DisMommyTX for the Orbitz code- Orbitz had standard view for the dates and I was able to get the discount- which ended up giving me rates lower than the rate for the nights I originally booked with a PIN code. Yay!!!! Now- on to reschedule the DME dates...

Good decision! I wouldn't look at the extra dollars spent just for two days, in my mind the money would enhance the entire trip. Knowing you have some extra time can make every day more enjoyable.:earsboy:
