We are leaving wednesday night aroung 1:00 am to Orlando.
Which road should we take? 87 and 95 or 81,77 and 95.

We are checking weather also. In Montreal they said a new snowstorm for New York state is expected for wednesday.
I would like to know how is the road? Is it nice or icy or with snow.

Habitually we took the 87 switch at Albany to join the 81 and comeback by the 64 or 77 to the I-85.

What is your safety advice road to use.

I looked at Weather.com and it looks like you'd be better going down 87. The temps will be warmer, and they're showing rain instead of snow.

Est-ce que vous parlez francais? Le francais etait ma specialisation a l'universite, mais il fait longtemps que je le parle. Il me faut practiquer!!! :)

Now what gave it away? was it habitually, for habituellement? En fait, nous parlons Québecois! Et c'est plus pur que "Français Standard" parce que nous n'utilisons pas des anglicismes comme "stopper", "parking" etc.

Of course my wife's family is Acadienne, and that is truly bizarre.

M. Similliard, they should have everything plowed out by now, tho not to the standards Montrealers are used to (here in Mass, they just push the snow to the side, and have the nerve to refer to the process as "snow removal"; it still appals me after 17 years since moving down here). So 87 should not be so bad. Farther South (after NJ) they start having more trouble with snow and ice, bcs they are not used to it the way they are in Upstate NY.

Bonne chance et bons voyages! ;)

Bonjour,

I speak french also. We just had a snow storm yesterday, the first one for Terrebonne, north of Montreal. 16 inches of snow.
The roads still have snow on it but highway and major street are clear.
It will take a week to clear the streets in Montreal area.
Thank you for the information.
Last summer we tried a new road, entry at Lacolle Champlain custom border, albany and after switching to west to join the 81. On that road, nobody except me... I was scare if something happened.... After reaching the 81 we continue until the blue mountain in Virginia and comeback to 95. I remember that I can look down because we were too high in the mountains. I just checked the weather forecast and they say rain for Albany, New York, etc. during the day. But at night it will freeze.
Is it better to take the 87-NY thruway, NJTP, and 95 after. Chances of freezing rain or bad road conditions are higher in the mountain of Penn or Virginia? What is your opinion for that.

I hope you understand my french. A little bit of practice for you.

Thanks

Carole

et j'connais bien Terrebonne et vôtre route. Il fait beaux la bas en été, mais en hiver c'est un peu dangereaux.

I believe you are better off staying out of the mountains and nearer the coast at this time, particularly as you get farther South. So 87 to NJT to I95 might be a good call; there is more traffic, but the roads will be clearer and probably safer at this time of year. And remember, down here in the South (by which I mean anywhere south of Vermont, including Mass;)) people really don't know how to drive in the snow and ice, so they make irrational decisions, endangering the rest of us.

Joyeuse Fêtes!

If your still looking, it is raining now in upstate New York, forcast to change over to snow with 1 to 3 inches by this evening, then change to lake effects snow over Oswego county (north of Syracuse),So by the time you get here, all you should have to worry about is lake snow for about an hour of driving in an area used to getting it. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the infos, we will leave in 90 minutes from now.
After your answers and checking weather on tv, we will take the 87, thruway, nj and 95.

Today we had ice last night and this morning, school closed, light snow, rain and tonite snow for again 5-6 inches.

We will drive carefully and if any problem we will wait for daylight to drive more safely.

Have a nice and Merry Christmas, good health, peace and a lot of love and friendship for 2004.

You'll be going right past us..too bad I didn't know, I would have had you stop for breakfast and a potty break!

It was freezing rain with light snow here near Albany, but it seems to be stopped right now, and the temps are just starting to drop, in the Albany area. Drive safe. I think they were expecting much worse, since everything in this area was cancelled/closed tonight. It may be slippery out there.

Be especially careful on 87 between exits 24 and 21..they are having 6-10 inches of snow in that Warrensburg, Lake George area tonight. It's a snow bowl effect and traditionally have lots of accidents..often people from Canada, who don't realize it gets slippery there. It is suppose to be snowing right now in that area.
