what kind of clothes should I bring? I guess I'll bring a variety. Hoping we'll be able to swim in the ocean, but is that wishful thinking or what? :) Shorts during the day? I REALLY don't want to bring our winter coats.

This will be our first trip there--any other tips?

Hi!

I just did a weather check for Vero Beach, and it may not get into the 80s. You won't need your winter jackets, but you will probably need something warm to wear, and I wouldn't count on wearing shorts in the evening.

We went to VB last March, it was very windy. Unlike in the summer, however, it was perfect for riding bicycles!

The Harborside Oceanographic Institute was a very nice trip. We saw manatees in the harbor on site there.

Floridians are wonderful for saying that the cold/cloudy weather you're experiencing is so out of the ordinary. I no longer believe them. We've been in Florida 8 days this January and February and it hasn't been sunny for many of those days at all! Earlier this month, we didn't feel it was warm enough for shorts the entire weekend.

Have fun, and I hope you get perfect weather for your trip.

Definetly pack a little of everything...weather around here (I'm a half hour north of Daytona) is crazy. One day in the 50's the next in the 80's :p That said, according to channel 9 last night (ABC) they were saying high 70's to low 80's for the next 5 days and lows of in the 50's -- now that's out of Orlando but Vero is South of there so it should be that or slightly warmer. It's not usually shorts weather at night but you can probably be comfy in shorts during the day...just remember being right on the ocean may feel a bit colder with the wind. As for swimming in the ocean, way to chilly for me but I like it in the middle of summer when it's really warm. Northerners don't tend to think it feels quite as cold so you'll have to wait and see. The pool should be heated though and then there's always the hot tub! Enjoy! They're also saying it should be nice and sunny the rest of the week;)

Oooh, those temperatures sound like heaven right about now. :cool1: DH was talking about the ocean temp and that it probably wouldn't be any colder than Maine is in the dead of summer. If I could sit out on the beach and swim in a heated pool, that's fine for me.

Thanks for the info! :Pinkbounc

We are going to Vero in April (46 days) and we are anxious to hear about the resort and the area. Hope you have a great trip and tell us about it when you get back. :sunny:

Looks like a beautiful 80+ degree day today....hope it holds for you!

The water temperature stays pretty warm year-round off of Vero. It's the start of the tropical area of Florida and the gulf stream runs right offshore.

we were at Vero three weeks ago ... just before the short "cold" snap. The air temp was in the lower 70's and the ocean was 63 degrees. Being from MI, we braved it and had a great time (it's warmer than Lake Superior! :rotfl: ). We also rode the bicycles one day and went to Mel Fisher's Museum on another while we were there. The morning temps were in the 40's and I remember them telling me that the pool would be closed until it got above 50. Something about the pool being heated, but the air isn't that early in the morning ... You'd think that Disney could fix that, wouldn't you? The hot tub, sauna, and exercise room were all open in the early morning, so I really had no complaints! Pack for anything and I'm sure that you'll do just fine. I'm sure that you won't be leaving home for Vero dressed in shorts and a t-shirt, so your clothing that you left home in should be sufficient for cooler days.

We're going to Vero soon too...counting the days. They've had some nice weather, lately.

Bill...looks like we'll be there the same week.

Yes, we've had very silly up-and-down weather for the past two months - hard to say if that's out of the ordinary - we've only lived here 3 years. ;)

The weather so far the past few days has been cool in the morns, warming up to shorts and t-shirt - defintely pool swimming weather. Then as the sun goes down it gets a little cooler - the humidity has not kicked in yet! Good news - it's probably too cool for the mosquitos too!

Have fun! We will be at Vero Beach in March. Can't wait!

KWeaver, I think we will be there at the same time you guys are also. We booked a Beach Cottage for 2 nights after being at Disney World, hoping to relax just a little bit before we have to head home.
