It's freezing here in NYC.

The Good:

We're driving down to WDW on Saturday. We'll be making a stop overnight in NC to visit and pick up DH's brother and his family. Then it's off to OKW on Sunday!!!

Can't wait. Mild weather, Grand Villa, the parks, no work, ... now that's the life!!!

The Bad:

Our whole family has been sick like dogs the past 2 weeks. Almost 5 yo DD is all better and back in school. Poor baby 2 yo DD is still listless with hardly any appetite or energy and some coughing. First I worried about her fever (broke 3 days ago) and lack of eating and drinking, now I worried because she's not sleeping. She will just lie down with her eyes open all day and night. Wants to be held but still won't sleep.

Took her to the doctor twice. Once early last week, fever but no sign of infection - told to give fever reducer and lots of liquids. Fever lasted 6 days and she just got weaker and weaker - refused to eat or drink. Went back this Monday, this time found an ear infection. So, she's on the antibiotics and is more comfortable - no more fever, is starting to eat (very little) and drink more, still some coughing but it's the lack of sleep that is worrying me now. It's probably form all the drugs.

DH and I are sick too. Got sick one after another starting the weekend after Christmas. We are now much, much better than over New Years. But my head is still all congested, I totally lost my voice, and both of us have coughing fits.

So, three of the 4 of us are recovering but I sure hope we all feel better in 2 days. DH and I have to take turns driving. And I just want my poor baby all better. Seeing her thin, tired, sad face just breaks my heart.

So, I'm looking forward to get out of Dodge, but I'm not looking forward to making the drive. Thought about flying but with the higher fares, tightened security measures, need to pack better and lighter, need for a car rental, and my ear ache (head congested, one ear stopped up, hurts when I blow my nose), it just didn't seem woth it.

PLUS, my parents in-laws are not my favorite people right now. Some sort of squabble involving MY family business. My parents are glad they don't have to see them (they aren't coming). DH is so mad at his parents that he is refusing to sleep under the same roof with them!

I'm trying to keep things civil for the sake of the kids.

Called MS today and switched DH's parents into the studio reserved for his sister. His sister and son is now staying with us and his brother's family in the GV. He told her it was because it would be easier to not have to buy 2 of everything (milk, etc) to stock the 2 units. Besides, the kids would want to stay together. She was fine with the switch.

Didn't bother asking the IL's. Although, MIL finally did call this morning to ask how we were feeling - she heard we were sick. Hello? At least one of us has been sick for the last 2 WEEKS! They've been avoiding us/me. Fine with us. Let's see how they're going to avoid us next week. Kept that call real short since I had no voice - let her talk to the grand kids.

Sorry to vent. Feel better already.

The Good:

They will only be there for 8 nights and then we're kicking them out and enjoying 4 nights in a one bedroom with our own little family. My aunt, a fellow DVCer, will be coming down to WDW with 5 of her 8 kids that week in her own unit. So, we'll see them. My kids always have a blast with my young cousins.

Well, off to finishing working/packing.

2 more days,...

Yikes! In-laws can be a bummer. I know mine do not KNOW we have a timeshare... Let's just say they would have a "What's yours is ours" attitude, and dh thought it best they not know. They just think we go to FLorida an awful lot!

As far as the illness, it seems to be the downside to traveling out of summertime. We were at OKW for Thanksgiving and both my kids were sick. Not at the same time, thank goodness, but both ill for part of the trip. We had a ball nonetheless. You have lots of grownups going, as we did. This means you can take turns staying with any sickies. Your family is on the mend so the warm Florida weather can only make it better! I hope your littlest gets feeling well enough to sleep -- perhaps she'll catch up on the drive.

Ignore the in-laws and let Mickey work his magic. I was in a funk when we arrived in November (worried about my son and his fever) but after a day or two I was enjoying it as much as ever! WDW has magical powers to cure illness and relieve stress. 12 nights in Florida -- some without in-laws -- sounds like just what the doctor ordered!

Dear Sleepy,

Sounds like the same virus that went through our family starting on Christmas Eve. 4 out of 5 of us came down with it. Fever, listless, coughs, congestation, couldn't sleep. We thought it was because we were all laying around all day, but maybe it's part of the package. Hard to see how you can get better without rest, but somehow you survive.

Currently everyone is back to normal. I bet your family will be too. Probably even faster once everyone feels those warm Disney rays. Hope everything turns out alright. We to are bringing down parents for our next trip. We have done this three times before with mixed results. Good idea giving them the boot early. We have done this ever since the first time. You really need a litlle time to yourself at the end just to make it fell like a vacation.

Here's a little pixie dust for you !!!! :bounce:

If you get sick down there, there is a little Urgent Care place near Downtown Disney....

When my daughter got sick, I called the front desk, and they said they would get us a taxi for free for us to go.

I think this is standard for Disney....

Also, there is a good Hospital close by, if need be. So don't worry.

The only thing, meds are very expensive, even if over the counter, so stock up now.

Ask your doctor to get your some extra prescriptions for antibiotics and ear drops, and fill them now and take them with you.

Also, if the little one has an ear infection, maybe skip the swimming, or make sure you use something like swimmer's ear to dry it out.

Just some ideas.

SOrry for all of you being sick.

Best of luck, Goldi.

Hope your whole family feels better over the next 48 hours. I know how horrible that can be especially when you drive. We drive 16+ hours one-way from PA and one year I was so sick. I usually take turns driving with my dh to give him a break, but this one year (2002) I could not. I felt bad for him. So I really hope you'll all soon be on the mend !
Sorry about the in-law problems too----I know how THAT can be too ! Hang in there and have a fantastic time. I'm jealous that you're getting to escape this artic cold !!!

Hi,

Feel better & have fun!!! Pixie dust coming your way!

Thanks for all the well wishes and replies.

It really helpsto hear from you all and to know that others have listened to me vent.

Some good news on my head congestion:

I called my doctor's office and his receptionist suggested trying Buckley's Cough and Cold Syrup. Well, DH picked some up on the way home after work and we took some after dinner.

Yuck! Boy, is it nasty tasting!!!! Imagine drinking Vics VaporRub in liquid form plus some other foul tasting stuff. DH liken it to human Liquid Drano. Something so nasty has to work.

As I sit here working OT (without the pay, of course) so that I can get everything done before leaving, I can feel my left ear starting to clear up. I'm still a little congested but it really cleared up a whole lot! Wow!!! :earseek:

Maybe that drive won't be too bad. As someone suggested, I hope the baby does sleep in the car.

2 more nights...

:smooth: Old Key West

The GOOD:

Extremely relaxing; a fantastic vacation; huge rooms; total fun; spouse + cheese + bottle of wine = jacuzzi. :love2:

The BAD:

At some point you must return to the Big Apple. :wave2:

Ooops! Hit the back button and double posted.

Want to be in that jacuzzi NOW!!!
