This will be our first time going to Disney, my husband and I and my 4 yr old daughter. I have the following questions:

  • Any suggestions as to what we should do first? We get there at 10ish in the a.m.
  • For my daughter what are some of the "must do's"
  • What are the best snacks to bring while at the park?
  • What is the best place to see the firworks?
  • We are taking a shuttle from the airpot to the hotel, do we need a carseat?
  • Is there a microwave or refrigerator in a standard Disneyland room?

Any other info/tips that you can share would be very much apprecaited....Thanks

Any suggestions as to what we should do first? We get there at 10ish in the a.m. It really depends on the crowds, what type rides you like, etc. I would probably recomend getting fast pass for space mountain, as they do sometimes run out early. While you are in the area, you might as well ride the tomorrowland rides. Or, check and see how the lines are in fantasyland, so that your 4 year old can work up to the bigger rides.

For my daughter what are some of the "must do's": jr chef cookie baking at the end of main street(end of main street), Princess story time in the princess shop in Fantasyland, meal at Ariels in DCA with the princesses

What are the best snacks to bring while at the park? Anything that doesnt require refridgeration, and things that dont crush easily- pretzels, snack mix, cereal bars, fruit snacks.

What is the best place to see the firworks? Best place is from the hub, near the "partners statue", buts its going to require you to get there around 8 and wait for a while. 2nd best place is in front of Its a small world. YOu wont have to get there nearly as early.

We are taking a shuttle from the airpot to the hotel, do we need a carseat? If you are taking super shuttle, YES, you willl need a car seat. If you are taking the Disney express bus you will not need it.

Is there a microwave or refrigerator in a standard Disneyland room? You can request a fridge for your room.

One of my daughters favorite things she did when we went last week was get her hair done up at Club Libby Lu in DT Disney and then she had her silhouette done on main street. The pouffy hair do really made the silhouette look nice. We had her silhouette with the shodow of a golden mickey face behind hers, I think it makes a great 50th souvineer.

Walking towards the castle on main street, the silhouette shop is about half way down on the right hand side.

If I remember correctly is was about $16.00 for the silhouette or a total of $23.00 if you want the Black oval frame included. I am just looking at my dd's now and the frame is really lovely, it is black with gold embossing with a gold inner rim then the mat has fancy scollwork with Disneyland written at the bottom of the oval, then with the black silhouette with the gold mickey silhouette behind (it may have cost a couple of extra dollars for the golden mickey set behind).

It also came with another set of mounted silhouettes (the mirror images of the ones in the frame) that would look great in the scrap book or maybe to give to grandma.

I thought the price was pretty reasonable considering the prices of some of the other souvineers we bought like earrings for $20.00 or hoody's for $48.00.

Yes the silhouettes are a nice souvenier. They have been doing them for many years. We went to DL in 1976 (I remember cuz of the bicentennial) and my parents had our silhouettes done. I don't know if mom still has them (I hope so) as I would like to get my kid's done and hang them all together. When we went to WDW I meant to get my kid's silhouette, but I don't remember them having a shop. Maybe I missed it.
BTW, does DL still have someone who does portraits on Main Street (I believe they were done in watercolor)? In '76 we also had those done and I would like to get some of my kids.

mommabo, I had also asked previously about portraits, but the response I got sounded more like caricatures (cartoonish) rather than a watercolor portrait. A watercolor or charcoal portrait would be nice, but I'm not sure if that is something DL has now.

We had our sons' silhouettes done at home last December, and the artist said that there were only a handful of people in the country that still do them. I'm guessing the Disney silhouette artist(s) work similarly: she did it freehand, and it only took a couple minutes each. It was incredible to watch, and the results are beautiful.

ytweedy, bring whatever snacks your daughter likes that don't require refrigeration and won't melt! My boys are suddenly on a dried fruit kick, raisins, apples, mangos, so that will be a good one for us. Maybe hard raw foods like carrots & apples... I haven't been to DL yet, but I'm thinking bring in healthier snacks, figuring there are plenty of fatty/sugary snacks to tempt us once we're in the park. :)
You may also want to bring your own water bottles, as purchasing one will cost about $2.50/bottle.

Also, the Disneyland Hotel (not sure if this is what you meant by 'Disneyland room'?) does have what they call an 'electric cooler' in each room - It sounds like a mini-fridge, so won't hold a gallon-container of milk, but probably will hold a half-gallon size or smaller, plus other items. One person stated their 'cooler' wasn't keeping things cool so they put ice in it, but I think it was not operating correctly; others said theirs was plenty cold.

If the 50th anniv fireworks are still going on you do not want to be in front of Small Word. You'll miss the whole laser light show and Tinkerbell. Best place is right in front of the castle sitting on main street.
