Leaving for College program with DD on the 4th!

I agree with you Kim! This theard has been so interesting for me! I love reading things from the parents point of view! It's got me all psyched up for my upcoming CP!! Hopefully I'll get to meet some of your DS/DD when I get down there!!

Congrats, Flower4Pwr on the WDWCP! I'm from Maryland, too and my daughter did the WDWCP in Spring, 2003. She's counting down the days til she hopefully goes back! Have fun with it!

I have been happily married for the past twenty three years to one of the most wonderful, beautiful, and marvelous women in the world!

Just promise you will not RweThereYet!!!!! She will kill me!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just kidding, she is my wife all legal and everything. I know it sounds strange in today's world!!!!

DS told me today he got to go watch some kind of canoe race finals between some of the female lifeguards.

The time and place was what I thought made it cool! It was at 5:00am ( I did not know he knew what time that was on a clock) and the race was around Tom Sawyers Island at the MK. He said MK was really cool that time of the morning with reallly no one around other than delivery trucks.

I WANT TO BE IN THE COLLEGE PROGRAM!!! I still have not heard about internships regarding running the place though!

Flower4Pwr, good luck on your CP. You will have a great time.

YesDear, I think they should start a program for the parents of the CP'ers. Let's start a letter writing campaign. :) I want to run CBR and Epcot. :) :)

My son started the College Program in the fall of 2000. Watching him drive off to WDW in his car loaded to the gills with his clothes, TV and other necessary "junk" was just about the hardest thing I've ever done. MUCH harder than the first day of college.

The program was a big plus in his life - he enjoyed every moment and learned a great deal. The BIGGEST plus for his time at Disney World was another CP he met while there - a very special girl. They were MARRIED in July, 2002, and we couldn't be more pleased. So parents Be Warned! The CP can have bigger results than expected. In our case, the results were extremely positive.

(Hi all, I'm new to the Dis boards. I just got my signature sorted out.)

Welcome, DisFlan! That is such a neat story about your son. I guess meeting your future spouse while on the WDWCP sorta guarantees that they will like going to WDW, huh? :D

jk1 - yup, they both love WDW. Big Surprise, huh? :) They honeymooned there and did a cruise on the Magic. They can hardly wait to go back. We'll be back at the World in March '04 with DH, me, our son and his wife, and my sister and BIL - with their adopted 2 yr old daughter (they've had her for a year). We're really excited about introducing our "new" niece to Disney World! She'll be almost three by then and she already has a big list of Disney favorites. We'll be doing Chef Mickey's for sure.

safetymom - it sure is a fringe benefit. It'll be fun to take our future grandchildren to WDW and tell them, "We have you because your Mommy and Daddy met right here in Disney World!"

I met my late husband where I worked. He had an X on the floor where he proposed. That was always good for a conversation starter.

safetymom - I like that! ;) Your husband sounds like a neat guy.

I wouldn't hazzard a guess at how many X's could be marked at Vista Way or the other CP apartments. (ahem)Not that all of them ended with proposals. This is the part of the CP that parents don't want to think about much. Hot tubs, swimmin' pools, college kids...

Could you see that if they put X's everywhere in WDW???? :)

Oh I am sure there is lots of stuff that mothers don't want to know about the CP program. ;)

Well Marla got there yesterday. I am sure she got to PC today. Think there is anything left???

Welcome Disflan!

I am sure DW (whoever it is???) would love for DS to meet his mate for life while at WDW. If she is the right one of course.

She, DW has told DS that one of the few requirements she had in a DIL would be that she had to like Disney!!!

That would pretty much make her day! DW that is.

I agree we as parents do not want to know everything that goes on. There are several boards like this one for furture and current CPers to talk about their experience. Whew!!! I have had an education.

I have heard of several couples that have met while on the CP. I am sure they will always think of it as a special time!

It is a very special time i too met someone while on the program we dont see each other all the time bc of distance but have plans to see each other in the future. I actually just went to visit him on the west coast was great to see him again.

safetymom - LOL! Wouldn't that be a sight? The place would be PLASTERED with X's. My son's roommates from Vista way were all groomsmen at his wedding. My son was so lucky - they are a great bunch of guys. At the reception they sat around telling stories about Vista Way. Ohhhhh, the tales they told!

YesDear - We've been a Disney family since 1977, so it was a pretty good bet that any girl our son picked would like Disney. When he was six, he told us he was going to grow up and live at Disney World. And he's pretty much never outgrown the idea!

Angelgirl - Good luck with your relationship! My son and his future wife spent months shuttling back and forth between Missouri and Colorado. We figured it was cheaper for them to just go ahead and get married.

One of my managers met his wife on the College Program back in '98. I met someone also but b/c of the distance we've decided to remain good friends. I'm so excited b/c he's coming to visit me next week before he goes back home from his program. You never know who you'll meet there and the friendships are def life long! Have fun Flower4Pwr. I love all these updates as well, it's been fun to see what's been goin on since I've come home...makes me miss it even more!

I am sure DW (whoever it is???) would love for DS to meet his mate for life while at WDW. If she is the right one of course.
Darn YesDear, your DS missed my daughter by one semester on the WDWCP! One of her qualifications for a spouse is that he love Disney! In fact, she plans to get married at WDW! :D

safetymom, I have checked out your CBR pictures. We will be staying there the end of August when we go down to pester DS again, any words of wisdom for us. We have a king room booked, and I understand that usually means you get a handicapped room. That is what we got in July at Port Orleans and the room was great, corner room, huge shower, etc. We will have our own transportation, so, any suggestions or recommendations for the 2 of us. We won't spend a lot of time in the room, but do like a good night's sleep, away from the noise and action. We spent one night there in March, and a few night's about 12 years ago, so not a lot of experience there recently.

I don't think there are any noisy rooms at CBR. If you want to be close to the food court and pool then request Martinique or Trinidad North.

If you would like a little scenic walk then request Jamaica or Aruba. They are all beautiful rooms.

Be sure to watch Illuminations from the beach at Martinique. You can hear the music and see the fireworks from your hammock.

You will have a great time at CBR and with DS. Don't forget PC.

I am hoping to get a trip to CBR in October for Food and Wine. My daughter wants to work it so hopefully I will get some house hunting time.

We will be at WDW for DS's 21st birthday in October, which falls over the first weekend of Food and Wine, our first time there for that. We will be staying at OKW on that trip, however.

Thanks for the recommendations. When we stayed there the one night in March, it reminded me of how much we enjoyed our stay there some years ago. I do not know why we haven't returned before now. Sometimes I think it is an overlooked Resort.
