Any last minute tricks/tips/hints/must sees/dining ideas? Also anything we should skip?

Travelers: Me, DSalmost15

Lodging: Marriott Waterfront

Activities planned:
Aquarium
Science Center
Duck Boats
Top of the World
Harborplace/Gallery
Voyages of Discovery

Thanks in advance!

How many days will you be down there? Does he like baseball? If so, you can see if the Orioles are in town and go to a game. If not, I think they give tours of the stadium. I might bring my son to the aquarium this week--if I go I'll stick my lime green Mickey ears on myself. :teeth: They're still on my backpack from my last Disney trip.

We should get there mid-afternoon tomorrow and we head home Wednesday. Just a quick little get away. We'll probably do Top of the World tomorrow and maybe the duck boat. Monday is aquarium, Tuesday is Science Center.

He's not a big sports fan, but the Duck Boat tour supposedly will take us past all the highlights, including Camden Yards.

I'll look for your mickey ears! Weather is supposed to be nice, right?

I use to take my son kite flying every weekend at the Harbor. We loved doing this and then we'd have some lunch. Have a great time. :thumbsup2

Mid 60's you should be fine .

Looks like your plan will work as well.

Hit ESPN & Hardrock for a quick look around.

Hoping for Hard Rock for lunch. Is ESPN good if no interest in sports?

I wanted to do Ruth's Chris or Morton's for dinner, but he doesn't want to trade in his Converse and band t-shirt for something appropriate. Hooters it is!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! My bet is that he planned it that way!

There's also
-Ft. McHenry (where the National Anthem was written)
-Pride of Baltimore is a lot of fun, too. It could make for a nice dinner. I know you're already doing the duck tour. Have fun quacking!
-The Rusty Scupper for some real Maryland crabs or crabcakes

Be sure to give yourself a full day at the aquarium. It can fill up quickly and really bog down- this is school fieldtrip time of year, too. There's a number of new exhibits and you want to have time to do and see everything. If you can, get up to the Amazon area in the early morning as the animals and brids will be most active. Retrace your footsteps for anything you missed in order to get up there. The new Australia exhibit is fantastic!

The Science Center was always my favorite as a kid! Lots of fun!

If we make it to Baltimore it won't be until the middle of the week at the earliest. We're going to Kings Dominion on Monday. :cool1: Sounds like a fun time! The weather will be coolish, but I think it's supposed to be dry, unlike the soggy day that we're having today.

Today is not the day to be out thats for sure.

We were to go to Opening day at Six Flags Just to get our season pass photos taken and a quick ride or two ( DD has a B-day party at 1:00 )but those plans were ruined.
They are theaming after Disney this year with a parade, chars roaming,Brunch with Bugs and Fireworks.

Let me know what you think of 6 Flags. We haven't been in years and I vowed that I wouldn't go back even with free admission, but we were reading the article in the paper today and are hoping that they will clean the place up. It would be great to have an amusement park in the DC area that's not a 2 hour drive. If they clean up their act I'll get passes for next summer. I can't believe that they raised the parking rates to $15/pop. Yikes!

We like to go twice a year and just enjoy the atmosphere.

Some of our favorite moments have been:

Sitting on the second floor balcony of Barnes and Noble sipping a Starbucks brew and people watching. The building was an old dockside warehouse that has been restored. The balcony is quite high, and gives a great view of the harbor.

Cheesecake Factory. A must eat. If going for dinner put your name in about 2 hours before you want to eat.

Watching the street performers. There have been great sidewalk artists, dancers, and musicians.

Sitting on a waterside bench at night, eating cheesecake, watching the boats.

You will see a Discovery Channel store. There is a level of shopping underneath the store. Follow the heady chocolate scent to the Fudge shop on the lower level. The bakers shout out to passerby, do crazy stuff, and soon get an audience of 50+ people just watching their antics. Fun to watch.

I highly recommend Fort MacHenry. Hope you have time to work it in.

We've had passes for like the past 5 years .It has been getting better every year .We go down for just a few hours on the weekends But I have a good bit of time off during the summer so we hit it during the week .

I take DD and her friends while DW works .I wasn't going to get the passes this year (due to getting the PAP's for Disney)but they sent me an early purchas of $45 each so I couldn't pass it up.Last year we went over 30 times so it was worth it for me & DD .

The parking is crazy I wait in line getting our photo's each year and see if someone is selling their 2nd pass at half price (been lucky 2 of the 5 years). If not I just upgrade as we leave .

I'll do a small trip report and some Pics if we get down tomorrow if not next week for sure.

What do you mean their 2nd pass at half price?

It was probably 5 years ago that we went. My 15yo had a free ticket for some school program that he did and I got a deeply discounted ticket and even then it wasn't worth it, and we haven't been back. I almost brought the kids last summer since the water area looked like fun on the commercials, but just couldn't bring myself to to it. I'm glad that it's improving--it used to be fun when it was Wild World (and wasn't it called something else after that?). We bought the Kings Dominion passes because we're going to Kings Island in Ohio this summer so will get our monies worth out of them, but would love a closer park--KD is 2 hours away w/o traffic--too far!

Well you can buy 1 parking pass for I think $40 or 2 for $50 (this year it went up I haven't looked yet) .

So many people just buy the second one for the extra $10 dollars then sell it in line for $25 thus splitting the cost.

I know we went maybe 6 or 7 years ago and witnessed a stabing right at the entrance of the water park DW said she would never go again. Then when Cal Ripken got involved we gave it another chance and It improves a little each year.

This last year it seamed the rides were down a lot more and thats why I wasn't getting a pass then when Daniel Snyder Put the Takeover into effect I knew one of his people was an ESPN person and stated things need to be more like Disney. So here we go again.

Haven't been to KD for ever but do Hershey in the winter and a few times in the summer.I would also like to do 6 flags Jersey this year last time there it was not that great either crowd wise.

Now that it's almost a month later....

Let me tell you, the Marriott Waterfront was AWESOME! We were walking distance to all the major stuff and didn't take the water taxi once!

We did the tours of the different ships/subs, the World Trade Center, Aquarium and Science Center, and Hard Rock. We got there Sunday afternoon and did the ships/sub and the World Trade Center and Hard Rock for dinner. We also walked around Harborplace and the Gallery and watched a couple of street performers.

DS got sick Monday at the aquarium and proceeded to throw up the rest of the day. We did the Science Center on Tuesday morning, and then decided to bag the rest of the trip since he still didn't feel good. We left after "lunch" and were home by Tuesday evening.

I'd stay at the Marriott Waterfront again in a heartbeat - especially for the $100/night I paid through Priceline.

I'm looking forward to going back.
