This is my second trip to Aulani. We stayed in a one bedroom villa on points as we are DVC members. We spent the last week at Aulani. There are 2 teens in our party.

We rented a car from the airport. The process is much simple than the last visit. The car rental center makes the process very simple. No need for shuttles or walk around checks of the cars.

We arrived the first day around 4. Checked in at the resort. I had done online check in and they checked us in by the valet parking. No need to go to the front desk.

We left and got groceries from Safeway. Preferred this store to Costco (food sizes too large) and to Target (tried Target last trip and was not impressed with selection)

Our teenage son tried the North Shore Shark Adventure and loved it. He said he got about 20 minutes with 7 other people in the shark cage

He did the surf lesson excursion thru Disney but he now has had about 4 surf lessons total and felt that he could go out by himself. He rented a board on the north shore for $25 for the day

Saw a monk seal today. We walked on the road to paradise cove and then assessed the public beach through the parking lot Much easier than walking behind the four seasons

When to Waikiki. We did some shopping. The resort does offer a shuttle bus but we drove there. We parked at the Ala Moana mall which is free and then hopped on the pink line trolley ($2 per person each way) to get to the beach and the shopping along the beach. The pink line goes to all the hotels in Waikiki. The Disney store at the mall carries the stitch with the ukulele stuffed character

Saw lots of characters walking around Aulani. They were out every afternoon. There were times there was no one at Minnie and she was just standing around. My daughter and another girl were doing the game that uses the iPad and Stitch came along and actually played part of the game with them

When we first got there the weather was awesome but towards the end of our week it did get a little colder in the evenings. You needed a hoodie. But cold is all relative since I am now getting ready to go on a flight back home where there still is snow

All in all we had an amazing time. Wish we didn't have to go home but we will back since Aulani is one of our home resorts

Thanks for sharing this. We'd love to do Hawaii, but often do Mexico, because the 3 hr flight is so appealing, as well as the flight prices. Any flight recommendations for Hawaii?

Were the teens entertained? We are in the boat where we have teens and small children.

My daughter found lots of kids to do stuff with she is fourteen. Though they did do the organized activities they also did their own thing. This trip was different in that it is spring break so a lot more older kids. When we went in feb a year ago there were not a lot of older kids so they were a bit bored. There is a zip line excursion on the north shore we never got to that sounded like fun. We found that with a rental car there were lots of activities available. As for flights this time we used delta and it is a long flight.

Thanks! I've been confused as to the easiest HNL options. Glad you had a wonderful time!

Is this new? We were there a year ago and took a shuttle to the rental lot.

Yes when we went in February 2015 we had to take a shuttle as well. This time we just walked across the road and all the car rental places had a desk there

Interesting. Even Alamo?

The shark tank sounds fun. I saw it on groupon, we may have to try it.

We had the Groupon for that also, but our trip was cancelled, THREE times!!! Not their fault, and the folks at the company couldn't have been nicer about it and more accommodating trying to get us in before we left. If the seas are too high though, they can't take you out. What is super cool though is that they have a deal with Groupon that if THEY cancel the trip, even if it's due to weather, you get a full refund. Normally there are no refunds with Groupon, and at most all you get is a credit on your Groupon account. I thought that was great!

Another thing we did through Groupon was the dolphin swim through Dolphins and you. https://www.groupon.com/deals/dolphins-and-you-1-3 THIS WAS AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE!! They pick you up from Aulani even. They take you just off the shore in front of electric beach (the power plant up the road from the resort). There is a very large pod of dolphins that hang out there. It was so incredible to be in the ocean surrounded by dolphins! After you have your time with the dolphins they take you over to a prime snorkel spot. They put a slide off the side of the boat and have a paddle board and kayak available too. While you're playing in the water they are making a hamburger lunch for you on board. One of the best experiences I've ever had in Hawaii, and one we will definitely do again!

I saw this on groupon. Glad to hear it was a good option. They also have on their website, buy one get one half. I'm not sure which price will be better.

Thanks for this cool recommendation!

@Soccerluvinmama, were there smaller kids on your dolphin excursion? My oldest, who is 8 mentioned he wanted to see dolphins. I remembered your review and I am thinking about doing this. I am not quite sure how my 6 year old would handle it, I think my 8 year old would be ok. Just curious if it was all adults or if there was children too. Thanks!

That's a great idea. Thanks for sharing your experience!
