I will be in Myrtle Beach for a weekend with my girlfriends.

DH wants to drive to Orlando on that Sunday but I finish up on Sunday am with my friends.

He will be driving from Charlotte and I want to meet him along the route and drive down in the other car.

Is there anywhere safe or available to leave a car for a week?

I am thinking this probably won't work out, but I thought I would ask.

I know nothing about that area, but I work for the Highway Patrol in Arizona and know that if cars are left on a highway/roadway over a short time frame that they'll be towed. If you leave them at a private business you'll need to contact the owner and get permission or it could still be towed.

hmm...how about an airport parking lot? It may cost a few $$ but it would be safe & secure.

I know alot of hotels allow you to leave a car there for several days if you are flying, maybe you could check the same for driving.

I also remember once my Mom rented a car from Charleston to Myrtle Beach, it was pretty cheap. The drop off fee was not bad. Can you ride with someone to the beach and rent from there?

From home, are you taking 95-S to Florence then cutting East to MB?

If so, could one of your friends drive and drop you off in Florence? Your DH would be taking 77-S to 20-E to pick up 95-S right?

Oh, I had no intention of leaving it on the side of the road!

I am going to see who is driving where.....we all come from various areas of the country, and only 2 of us are from the Charlotte area, although I believe the other person from Charlotte will be driving at a different time, but I will ask her.

Hm.....I don't know of any airports over that way that would be convenient, but that is a good idea if there is one. The only ones I know of are Myrtle Beach (out of the way) and Savannah, which wouldn't really help.

We did the car swap/leave a car deal on a HHI/Orlando trip. It was a bit inland (but made sense for our route), and left our car in the parking lot of a hotel, I think it was Holiday Inn Express in Bluffton, near Sun City. Just drove around to the side of the lot and parked it there. Something similar but closer to I-95 should work for you.

We met my sister in a city on the way to a funeral and got permission from a hotel manager to leave her car in the parking lot for the weekend. We left name/phone info with the manager in case any problems arose. They did tell us they would not assume responsibility in the event something happened to the car.

The Columbia SC airport looks to be right off I26 south of the city. He'd be taking 77 to 26. You'd be taking 20 to 26. Then you'd both take 26 to 95 to FL.

Yeah, that is a bit further than I had wanted to go back North if I can avoid it. Columbia is 3 hours from Myrtle and I only live 3.5 hours from Myrtle here at my house.

Florence has an airport....$8/day.....more than Charlotte's airport! But may be a possibility if I can't find a ride or better place.

I will take our 1996 Saturn Station wagon, so it won't be a car of a lot of value.

Does that state/area not have park and rides? In MD we have state maintained parking lots on the side of the highways. You park your car there and carpool or whatever and return to your car when done. I'm sure you assume any risk for damages or etc of course, but usually they are well lit and in high traffic areas. All free of charge well atleast well hidden in my tax bill

Oh, good thought! I will see if there is anything online!

Do they have rules about parking overnight?

I don't know for sure since I have never used them but I *believe* I have seen cars there overnight. I know each one has a sign posted (usually) stating the rules and liability warnings. Perhaps there is a SHA office you could call in the area to inquire.

Do either of you work for a large company that would have a branch along the way? I've done this a few times by parking at a convenient local office of my company. (With prearranged permission, of course.)

Not until Jacksonville! DH is an accountant for one of the Big 4 and they have NO OFFICES anywhere in SC. Nothing between Charlotte and Jacksonville. Even then there would be a problem. DH doesn't even park at his firm because it cost $200/month for a parking spot in the parking garage! He parks for free at the train station and takes the train in for $54/month. I work in education, so nothing for me either.

I would think a train or bus station would work as well. People leave their cars there.
