I need advice. Yesterday, my daughter fell off the monkey bars at school and hurt her ankle. She can put full weight on it and there is no pain or swelling, but she is limping really bad when walking. I made an appointment at the doctor this afternoon just for piece of mind. I don't think it's fractured, but I think she may have a sprain. UGH! What should I do?

Good luck to her. Sounds like it's not too bad, but of course let the doctor check for sure. Hopefully it's minor and can work itself out in a few days.

My 9 year old can reaaallllly exaggerate hurts. Not to say that it doesn't hurt him a little but give him a splinter and you'd think his foot was broken. Fingers crossed that it's nothing

Consult with the doctor, but don't worry too much. My son sprained the top of his foot last year, just two days before he was set to go on a walking tour of D.C. After X-rays to make sure nothing was broken, the doctor told us to wrap it, put him in crocs (no joke!), and send him on his way. He wasn't able to even stop and rest because he was with a big school group. He was fine.

Since you will be with her, you can be the judge of whether to add additional rest periods. Definitely take some anti inflammatory meds with you and enjoy your trip.

I think with all the walking that you do at disney it might be a good idea to get her a wheel chair ( and I would not get one from disney as they are big and very hard to push) get one form off site that way you have it all the time you will not need a wheel chair room as it sounds like she can walk some. ( go over to the disability boards for venders that will deliver wheel chair) or you can hope she will be fine before you go

Definitely see your doctor first!

If necessary, wheelchair rentals at the parks are very reasonable--$12/day.

The best thing you can do is ask the doctor and listen to what s/he has to say. :goodvibes

As the others have said, follow your Dr's advice, but my sense is that if she can fully weight bear and there is no pain, swelling or bruising, it is unlikely to be anything of great concern. Is she limping all the time, or only when she thinks someone is watching ? Some kids have a flair for the dramatic. Just sayin.

Children's Ibuprofen, ice packs and perhaps an elastic wrap may be all she needs.

Doctor and if you even THINK you might need it, rent a child sized wheelchair from Walker Mobility.

Last trip to Disney I was recovering from ankle surgery, had started PT for a few weeks already. I was in MAJOR pain and limping quite a bit. Almost wished to have a wheel chair

She is definitely limping all the time, but I *THINK* she is exaggerating some. She can fully weight bear, but I think she is just afraid to do it. She can even stand just on the hurt foot. Fingers crossed the Doc gives us good news.

Some of the stroller rental companies have strollers that go up to 100lbs or so, so if you don't want to go the wheelchair route, a stroller might work. (I don't know why, but I imagine pushing a stroller to be less painful on the back than pushing a wheelchair).

Good luck! I hope she wakes up good as new tomorrow!!

Sorry to hear about your DD's injury, I'm sure she's disappointed that happened so close to a WDW trip. Please let us know what the doc says. My only experience with sprains was as an adult, and it hurt badly for several days or more. Doc told me the best thing was "to stay off of it." There'd have been no way I could have walked or limped around WDW. I sprained my ankle at an airport and I could hardly make it to the next gate (which was in a different terminal of course.) I'd have been considering a wheeled device if I had a WDW planned. Good luck! :)

rent a wheelchair. Disney walking is not like normal walking.

Plus you'll be able to skip all the ride lines and be the first on the bus regardless how long the bus line is.

No skipping lines, as the queues are wheelchair accessible. Also, at the parks, the wheelchairs and ECVs are directed to go in the bus queues - at least they were at MK in August.
