This is why, after what Air Transat did to us, I refuse to fly Charters. They may save you some money but there is no guarantee that they will get you there!

I think Scratch and I went through that one already! There are no guarantees but at least there are more "partners" or "alliances" that
might help out in a pinch.

Good point mbb! I do not think any airline is really much better than another. A few years ago there were 15 of us heading to Holland for my DH Oma's 100th birthday. The 10 of them booked early through a seat sale with AC. My family of 5 decided much later to go and booked KLM at a higher price. Well - the Monday before the Thursday we were to fly AC cancelled the flight because they were not full! My MIL flipped and was not impressed, AC said on well the flight is not going - find another! They did end up on our KLM flight but at a higher price than us and much higher than their original AC flight.

So bigger does not always guarentee you a flight either.

I think these smaller charters are good for the business - they have better prices and seem to like your business. AC thinks we should bow to them - who is the consumer here? Business has really turned around lately and many think that they are doing us a favor for supplying us with goods and service when it is actually the consumer who is doing them the favor.

That is why I love Disney and they can charge the higher prices for the excellent service they give.

For me it is becoming less of a charter/big guy issue, it really is about lack of concern for customer service and satisfaction.

As well, I think in the future I will avoid any Canadian carrier whenever possible. The taxes/service charges etc are unbelievable. Our government needs to realize with the dollar so good flying out of the U.S is looking better and better all the time.

I keep reading on the Transportation Board how everyone's rates are dropping for their trips, and they get credits issued for their next trip...

Don't get me wrong...I'm happy - - to fly AC when I can find a decent base rate...I agree, Tracey, we paid just under $600 in taxes - just taxes!- on flights for the 4 of us

mbb - I am on eof those that got a fantastic rate out of BUffalo (same travel time for us as Toronto is). Our first ressis was for $811 US and then it dropped to $451 US for 6 of us! Now I have a credit for $360.

I priced the exact same flight - non stop - same days - out of Hamilton and was quoted $3600.

Another rather amusing thing - I recieved in the mail yesterday a mailing from Air Canada. It was trying to sell me a "great deal"! It was something like 6 one-way tickets available any time for Florida, Las Vegas etc. All for the amazing price of almost $1600! I really had to have a good laugh at the great price because it worked out to only 3 trips for $1600. Not a great deal IMHO!

I do believe that the Canadian airlines hands are tied because of taxation. Maybe the government needs to wake up and look at the amount of air traffic they are losing the States. And then again would they even care?
