Least expensive things at Disney World.

Little sugar packets for coffee in restaurants?

PONIES!!! Ok, that sounds scary. But ponies! We did that today (thanks Dis), and our man loved it. $8.00 for an "adult leads the pony" ride with some of the nicest, most well groomed and well-behaved little ponies I have ever seen. They are what I call bomb-proof and kid-friendly ponies. Kids have to be able to hold onto the saddle/pommel horn themselves. They weren't your country fair/pony-go-round set up, but happy guys with a free lead. And there was no line - we just walked right up!

After that, we visited the big barn, and he got to see the big draft horses. That's a perfectly free thing there. Since they were washing the horses when we went in, we got to see the big guys up close. Our boy was wowed by them (so was my husband!). I've been around horses most of my life, and the size of those draft horses never fails to amaze me!
Where are the ponies? Sounds like fun.

They are at the settlement post at Fort Wilderness nearby the Pioneer Hall place. You can boat over from MK, or park at at the front of FW and bus in. You can't miss it, look for all the little white ponies (those are Cinderella's ponies!)

If you happen to be staying at contemporary or BLT- you can take a boat from CR.
If you happen to be at WL- you can walk over. Though currently some of the walking paths are closed (or will be very soon with ongoing updates to the area).

Otherwise your best bet is to drive, or (as other poster said) get to MK (bus fro most resorts) then transfer to the Ft. WL boat. One more option- is to go to Ft.W directly from any of the other parks via bus.

As the other poster kind of said, Ft. WL has a main bus depot (Ft.WL to areas beyond and back)), then a second set of internal buses to transport guests within Fort Wilderness. If you get confused, we found guess at the main depot were very helpful and eager to explain how the internal buses work.

One more fun transportation tidbit...Ft WL is home to the Hoop de Doo dinner show. When the show lets out, a fleet of buses waits to take guests directly, or nearly directly back to their resorts.

Last year I went on the free tour of the Boardwalk area. At the end of the tour they gave everyone a free scoop of vanilla ice cream.

The cinnamon roll at Gaston's is a great deal. It's under $5, and it's almost comically large. My DD thought the CM was messing with her when he handed her the plate.

I have to say, we found many things at Disney more reasonable than we thought they'd be. For starters, coming from Canada, where a meal for a family of 4 at McDonald's is $30-40, we didn't find any of the CS or QS meals expensive at all. We found them to be good quality, good quantity and good value. We also found the toys very reasonable. We bought the kids one of the large Buzz Lightyears - $29.95. Back home in Canada at Walmart, that same toy was $59. We built light sabers at Hollywood Studios, and again, found those very reasonable - $29.95, and they got a large, custom-made light saber with light and motion activated sound. Again, we pay more than that home for a smaller, light only, one at Walmart.

Can't compare country to country!!! Trust me, Disney, as well as most public venues in the states, is crazy expensive!

Well.. actually, yeah, you kinda can, lol. Because what is expensive to one person, isn't to another, depending on where they're coming from ;) Which is why I said, for us, coming from Canada, we really don't find Disney that expensive. The tickets, yes. Very. But once we were in the park, we didn't find the experiences, or most food and merchandise expensive.

But to those of you in the US, I'm sure it does seem expensive.

I like the reusable shopping bags- sturdy and hold a lot! Plus they're under a few dollars.
