I have decided I need to learn how to sew....funny, I would always ask my mother "why do you wanna sew-YUK" as she made a huge mess with the patterns all over the dining room table-BUT, now I want to learn! She has no patience to show me-BTW. I want to learn how to make baby blankets, bibs, handbags but what patterns to choose from and where? OMG there are too many! I recently purchased a Brother 1201 machine that does embroidery and sewing...I have a small online boutique I want to add some handmade items to. Do you have any suggestions for patterns or any basic suggestions? I of course need some disney patterns for bibs and such.....:confused3

I don't sew a lot but I've found that going to Walmart and checking the books is the way to go. Butterick was always the easiest to follow for me. Good luck!!

I teach begining sewing and quilting classes I would suggest that if you can look into a local quilt shop or Joanns and take a beginning sewing class. You can pick up some great tips for using rotery cutters which make cutting patterns for purses and bags and babyblankets so much quicker and much more efficiante. These classes also will teach you about the straight of grain and what the bias is which can make all the difference in the end result. I would personnally stay away from the fabric type patterns for purses. I would suggust you look up some quilt shops on the internet and then look through there paterns for bag/totes tend to be better written and have easier step by step instructions.
Good luck
