Learning a second language

my daughter starts kindergarten in september and next year she will be in full french until grade 4. she's going to a french immersion school and they introduce english in grade 4.

so i have a year to learn french so that i can talk with her and help her.

we have tons of english as a second language or ESL courses all over the city but the only french we seem to have are college courses that talk about how much is that or can you direct me to the restaurant.

neither i think will be good conversation with dd.

i was looking at rosetta stone discs which come with ipod sections. it's all immersion which means they don't translate anything into english they just show you a picture and then the french word.

has anyone ever used it. or tried to learn another language?

it's pretty expensive so i'm reluctant if it's not all they claim it to be

I've never used Rosetta Stone, but I know our library has it available for patrons to use, free of charge. You might check to see if your local library has the same.

Rosetta Stone is awesome and very easy to use. I used it to learn Danish. After a few months, I learned enough to get around Denmark pretty well. I had purchased dozens of CDs, books and computer programs. All of them combined were not half as effective as Rosetta Stone. And as a previous poster said, you can find it for free at your library.
