You want to be fluent in under a year? :earseek: Good luck with that, but check your library for resources. They have plenty of "learning languages" on tape and such. It makes it real easy to learn when hearing someone ;) (at least for me :teeth: )

i'm only in 7th grade and learned french this one year. i think learning french would be easier with your neighbor not online. Online I think is harder because you have to learn how to pronounce (sorry, i can't spell) and everything. but the internet could probably help you with the conjuction thingies (lol i forget what they're called) but there is a problem from learning french online... french people talk really fast and... sure you could learn how to talk... but could you understand what their saying? i had thatproblem, when my french teacher showed us these review videos in french... i had no clue what they were saying until the labels appeared the second time. (the labels were in french too)

Yup Im just trying to warm up for my neighbor :D

Oh yeah, nothing les francais love more than an American speaking "franglais" or at the very least poor french. Be prepared for some rudeness on the part of the natives. I encountered much of it when I was in Paris last year.

That is why I'm going to speak Spanish and act like a Spaniard while I visit that part of Europe :rotfl:

Funny on all of our trips I've never run into any of that.

We're using Muzzy - :rotfl: ok, the kids are using Muzzy, I'm listening. Loads of fun, really. DH is no help just tells me my accent needs work.

it's funny i was in paris last year too, and we did not encounter any rudeness. people actually seemed to appreciate our attempts (i had taken a few classes prior to going to brush up).

chad -- the first time i was in france, i must've looked like a local or something because people kept coming up to me and asking me directions in bad french. one family i remember quite clearly: they were spanish. my spanish is much better than my french, so i asked them if they spoke spanish and we went from there. :rotfl:

No one's going to buy the Southern-Spanish accent. :rotfl2:

Lil_Tink: I would recommend going to the library or bookstore instead of trying to learn a language online. :flower:
There is a book "Speak French with Michel Thomas" that comes with two cds that is supposed to be really helpful. I'm thinking about checking it out myself since I'm trying to learn French.
And remember, always try to speak French even though you may not feel confident in your French. Also, always greet someone first when going into a store or when asking for help. :) Have a wonderful time!

Once you've started to learn a bit you can go to :

http://archives.radio-canada.ca/index.asp?IDLan=0

These are the archives of Radio-Canada , the french equivalent of the CBC. You will be able to wacth french speaking tv and see what you understand , and there are a lot of interesting show there.

If you go to the radio section , you will be able to listen to live french canadian radio. At night , it is music shows , but you could listen to the news , social issue ,or even weather reports and traffic repport !

Bonne chance !
