I live in a townhome and about 3 years ago the HOA replaced all our roofs. We never had any problems before this but after the new roofs we started getting leaks. First it was small, then it became worse. Everytime we called the HOA management company they would insist it was our skylights that were leaking (the lights were in the house when we bought it). Windows are the homeowners responsibility whereas the roof is the HOA's. We just didnt believe that because the water wasnt coming from that area. We went to a board meeting, showed them the photos and later we received a check to cover inside repairs and they said they would work on the roof.
Time passes, no work. Next board meeting we were told they were back to the story that it was the skylights and not the roof. We went back and forth on this and then received a notice of violation and we had 30 days to fix the skylights. We also get a bill for the HOA's attorneys fees. We had them removed and the roofer we used said our skylights were in perfect condition and not leaking, but found rotted wood on the roof to be the problem. We leave messages with the management company and they dont even return our calls.
Now I am a nervous wreck. The next board meeting is tonight. We are going to bring a letter from the roofer, photos he took and pieces of the rotted wood. I just want this nightmare over with. Why should I have to pay for roof repairs and attorneys fees when we didnt do anything wrong? I really dont want to get into a legal battle with them, but I feel that is where its going to end up.
