LE Meridian at Gatwick feedback appreciated.

Hi ,
this maight sound like a really odd question but has anybody stopped at Le Meridian hotel at Gatwick ?? We were planning to stop there the nigh tbefore our flight as we have a long way to travel and hoped it may take some of the stress out of the journey. Only I have just looked at their website and it does not look like a hotel that would warmly welcome children . I am strting to think that if we have to make 3 very excited cjildren into model citizens it may well be easier to deal with the stressful journey on the day!!
Anybody who has been please put my mind at rest .

I've never stayed at the Meridien at Gatwick but my parents have several times - they fly around 12 times per year- and there are always lots of children there from babies to teenagers.

I have however stayed at many other Meridiens including Le Meridien Picadily and children have been there too.

Thing is, you are paying for a room the same as everyone else - therefore you've paid for the right for children to be there - so don't worry.

My ds has been everywhere with me around the world - including the Georges V in Paris - a far "posher" hotel that the Meriden Gatwick.

Don't worry about it, there will be plenty of other families staying there too.

we've stayed there and although i'm adult there are quite a few children around...rooms are very nice and it's handy to get to the terminal...infact we ate in the airport the night we stayed there...it's only a 2 min walk...Would stay there again but since we're flying with virgin and they are in the south terminal we will be staying at the hilton.

we have stayed there many times with our son.

They have family rooms too. Its nicer imho than the Gatwick Hilton and very close to the terminal.

we stay there over night.. check in to BA before breakfast and then come back and check out of hotel and have breakfast.

(although since doing this we have also discovered Valet parking at Gatwick... BLISS!)

We stayed there last April. Booked a family room for 5 which was very comfortable and spacious. We didn't eat there but spent quite a long time sat downstairs in the reception, my DD's loved sitting there listening to the piano player and people-watching. There were lots of families with young children there, IMO if children weren't welcome they wouldn't offer family rooms.

We stayed there in December and I was pleasantly surprised, particularly as we'd stayed at the Hilton before and I don't think too much of that. Although it's in the North Terminal and we were flying from the South, it's still really quick and easy to move between the two - they're connected, so no need to go outside!

We stayed here in September last year and it was great!! The staff are friendly and the rooms are really nice! We paid £85 for the room and that included full English breakfast - booked it on the ba.com website!!

Relax - you'll be totally fine with the kids there

I always view that night at the airport as the start of my holiday! As a couple of others have said, Le Meridian is <i>much</i> nicer than the Hilton IMO. In fact, unless there is a huge price difference then we always stay there - even though we usually fly with Virgin from the South terminal. A couple of trips back I did give the Hilton a '2nd chance' in case the first room we had was a fluke (a bit dingy with paint peeling in the bathroom etc - it's only redeeming feature was we could see the planes taking off from our window) - but it was exactly the same and we were disappointed...not to mention there is a huge trek thru the carparks to get there!

Le Meridian will always be first choice for me.

I've stayed at Le Meridien a couple of times with children and once with Matt, which amounts to pretty much the same thing!

Never had any problems. You could go for a swim at the health club, that might help to wear the children out.
I agree that it is the nicest of the Gatwick hotels.

Hi We have stayed both there and the Hilton, but with a family I think the Meridian is the better choice as the family rooms are really nice. I would suggest eating in the airport as it will be alot cheaper.

Hi everyone,
Firstly a huge thanks for putting my mind at rest. We are flying Virgin but felt that the meridian was the better option as they would allow us to have just one room where as the Hilton wanted us to have 2 . I have three boys aged 2 4 and 6 so the hilton sticks rigid to max occupancy of 4 people regardless of age whereas the Meridian were happy not to count 2 yr old as a child.
I am impressed to hear that there were a lot of children in the hotel when others went!! We are planning on making this the first day of our hols and will prob eat in airport - I thought it would be a good way of getting our bearings before check in next morning.
I have now booked us a room and feel a lot better that the boys will be welcomed and not treated a as a pain in the neck!!

That's weird. When we stayed there, we booked 3 rooms for our party and we had 2 Queens and a rollaway in each room even though we hadn't asked for them.

You're lucky. Virtually every hotel I've stayed at in the last 10 years has been with Matt.
