Le Cellier: Why no tables for 5 ?

I booked CP package for 5 people a couple of weeks ago.
They didn't have one table left, had to take two. I wasn't
worried because this has happened in other restaurants and
it always worked out that we get one table.

So, today I call to make a different ADR and ask the CM about chance
of getting put together since kids are too young to sit by themselves and
it wouldn't be fun for husband and I. She says there are hardly any 5 top
tables and probably won't get put together on such a busy night.

Any opinions ????

thanks,

Le Cellier has a very small and cramped dining room. To accommodate the most guest reservation requests, they have very few large tables, since those tables would not serve smaller parties efficiently. Even though taking up two tables (a four-top and a two-top, or even two four-tops) seems to take up more space than if they had tables for five, it isn't the case due to the combination of how many parties are of 3 and 4 people, and the way larger tables restrict flexibility in the dining room.

I know what you mean, Woodysgrl. Our party of 9 has been split into 3 tables at Le Cellier. I'm sure it will prove to be an interesting meal!

I have gotten a reservation for my family of 5 the two times we have been there.

I agree that Le Celiers has a small dining room and lots of smaller tables. Though, we are a family of 7 and have always eaten together there. I would just keep calling and watching the cancelation threads to see if anything comes up;)

Well, there ARE just very few tables for five, anywhere. Most restaurant tables accommodate even numbers (irritating aside: several years ago my brother tried to add me to their Chef Mickey's reservation of five, a day in advance, and was told the earliest they had a six-person table was after 9, so he didn't change; sure enough, they ended up seated at a table for six... or else he's embarassed by my (lack of?) manners...) anyway, where was I? Oh, right - just remember, if it's at ALL possible for Le Cellier to seat you at a single table, or at least two tables next to each other, they will. Otherwise your options are either to each sit with one or two of your kids; or make a reservation somewhere that has space for a party of five at a single table.

We are a party of 5....the ONLY place we had trouble getting a table at was Le Cellier...in fact SO MUCH TROUBLE, we couldn't get an ADR for the time we are down there. I'm hoping something opens up in the next 86 days.

We ate at Le Cellier 2 weeks ago with a party of 5, but I can't remember exactly how the table was configured. I think DH, DS & I were in a booth against the wall and our 2 friends were in chairs across from us. Technically it was probably a table for 6.

I made that ressie at exactly 180 days out and I never tried to mess with it, so maybe we just got one of the few tables that will seat 5. :confused3

Thanks for all the replys ... I guess. I really WANTED to hear that of
course we would get a table together, don't you worry a bit about it !!

Oh well, I guess I need to think about the reservation and maybe cancel it.
If I do, I will post prior to doing it in case someone wants to try and get it.

thanks ...

When we ate at Le Cellier last year, we were put at a table for 2 that was in a row of 5 or 6 tables for 2 that had a bench/booth-type seat on one side and chairs on the other side. The tables were very close. It's very possible that they would put your party of 5 at 3 of these tables. Even if they don't push them together, they were so close, it like sitting at the same table anyway!! Or they could take a table for 4 with a table for 2 next to it and push them together for you.

Maybe if you check in for your reservation early you can wait for something like that.

Good luck.

We have a reservation for 5 in November as well....which I made 180 days out...when we tried to adjust to a different time just a few weeks later, there were no other tables available for that size...once you go over 4 people, the options/possibilities can greatly change.

We went last year at the end of January which is not busy at all and had to take a split reservation for our party of 5 or eat after 9. When we arrived at 5:20 for our 5:40 ADR they said we could get 2 sep tables in 20 mins or 2 pushed togther tables if we waited an extra 10 minutes so we chose to wait. 45 minutes later we did get our table ;) This year we aren't eating at Le Cellier the first day of our trip so by booking 180+10 we were actually able to get a table for 6 at the time we wanted. If you are willing to wait a good bit extra they will usually be able to get you together.

i'm sure i'll get flamed for my suggestion, but have you thought about making a ressie for six and when you show up just tell them you will have one no-show? for some reason, odd numbers give restaurants the heebie-jeebies! LOL?

That is actually a good idea...odd numbers do seem to pose problems.

I think it's tables larger than 4 that is the problem. It's not the odd numer it's the needing a table for 6 which at LeCellier is very few tables unless they combine some of the many 4's and 2's which is harder to coordinate in such a small restaurant.
