Le Cellier: Kansas strip steak or fillet?

I'm eating at Le Cellier for the first time this trip and I am WAY EXCITED. I'm torn, though. I'm usually a fillet person, so the mushroom fillet mignon seems like a no-brainer. But I'm also a coffee geek -- and I keep looking at that coffee-rubbed Kansas city strip steak. I've heard about steaks rubbed with coffee before, but I've never had one. Is this entree good? I'd welcome anyone's thoughts.

As for dessert -- I'm thinking whiskey cake. Can't go wrong with chocolate, right?

great question. i had the fillet and it was AWESOME!!! i struggled with the same thing - i also love coffee.
the bread on the table is great - they have a pretzel bread that is so yummy. for dessert DS had the chocolate moose (shaped like a moose)I had the trio of creme brule (maple something....) VERY GOOD!!! I am usually a chocolate girl but that was to die for.
good luck with your choice. over all i think you will have a great meal no matter what you pick

Been to Le Cellier 4 times and me and DW always got the fillet, and it was great but never had the strip. Now I had the strip in Coral Reef 3 times and really liked that.

Was there a couple of weeks ago and the server told us there really isn't a coffee taste in the coffee rub. So, we went with the filet which was absolutely outstanding...as usual.

Based on comments from a friend, I had the Kansas City strip steak, and while it was good, tasty, I wouldn't get it again. It was rather chewy. I'm used to having filet mignon.

The strip steak did have a good flavor, and it actually was quite large. I had enough to enjoy it with a salad for lunch the next day. I'm glad I tried it, but I prefer the filet.

My husband got the fillet in March and said that it was great!
He also got the whiskey cake...yummy!

Hmm... I WAS leaning toward the fillet mignon marginally -- that might just push me completely away from the strip steak. Thanks for all the feedback! I'm sure you're right -- I'll have a great meal regardless.

:)

DO NOT GET THE STRIP! Me and a friend both got it last December and we both HATED it. We thought it sounded so good and we both found it nearly impossible to cut.

100% the filet, just had it, amazing. Get the cheddar cheese soup and dip the pretzel bread in it. I had the Chocolate Mooose. It was also good, but I was so full.

I was unsure I would like the risotto and mushrooms with the filet, and had considered asking for substitutions but decided the Chef must know what he's doing for Le Cellier to be so popular.

The combination was indeed extremely delicious -- I just wish I'd had more of an appetite that day; my husband had most of it and while he liked his New York Strip (not coffee rubbed, though) and doesn't normally like Filet Mignon, he said it was excellent and would recommend it over the other options.

I also got the chocolate whiskey cake - very rich; I just had a few bites. I couldn't taste any whiskey, though. My mother got the chocolate mousse and that's very good, too, if you like chocolate -- I would probably order that next time.
