Anyone know where it is from? We are planning a trip to Niagara Falls and have read that there are wineries nearby that make ice wine. I was wondering if any of the local wines ended up at Le Cellier???? Those would be the wineries I would like to visit. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!

As far as I know here are the ice wines available at Le Cellier:

Inniskillin Vidal Icewine, Niagara Peninsula

Mission Hill Reserve Riesling Icewine,
Okanagan Valley

The Inniskillin winery has a tasting room and a pretty neat winery tour. And the wine is MUCH cheaper there than at Disney (even cheaper than real-world liquor store price). If you go, be sure to try their other varieties of icewine as well - the vidal that they have at LeC is good, but the cabernet is wonderfully original and you're not likely to stumble onto it elsewhere.

two years ago we went to Niagara Falls, I picked up some Ice Wine from Hernder Estate (address: 1607 8th Avenue, St. Catharines, Ontario (905) 684-3300 email: www.hernder.com) I really like the dessert wines, and I picked up a trio (red raspberry, peach and strawberry ice wines) which I had to have some dark chocolate with (because, you know, dark chocolate really brings out the flavors of dessert wines.) Anyway, the wine is yummy, and I'm glad I got it!

Oh, and St. Catharines is very close to Niagara, about 15 mins. north.

Have fun!

Do they have ice wine served at any place other than Le Cellier?

When you are at Niagra Falls take a short ride on Niagara Parkway toward Niagara on the Lake. It's less than 45 minutes to get to Niagara on the Lake, however on the way you will pass dozens of local wineries. Stop at a few of them, sample the wines, and many also sell ice wines. I'm sure you will find just what you are looking for. Also, the duty free's by the falls also sell several ice wines as well. ;)

Artist Point at Wilderness Lodge has several ice wines and an ice wine tasting flight. I don't know if anyone else has it... California Grill might, they have a really nice wine list, but I like a particular moscato d'asti that they have for dessert so I've never really looked for it there.

There are dozens of wineries in Niagara that have fantastic wine & ice wine. My family and I visit them quite often.

If you are really adventerous you should venture out to what is known as "the bench" (Jordan) and that is about 45 minutes from Niagara Falls. It is an area that is particularly good for growing grapes and produces some exceptional wines.

Here are a few suggestions:

My personal favorite vineyard is Jackson Triggs, just outside of Niagara on the Lake, which is actually about 20 minutes from downtown Niagara Falls. In my opinion they have the best wine in Niagara. They have a lovely tasting bar and a very modern and sleek looking facility. http://www.jacksontriggswinery.com/en/

Some of the best ice wine I have ever had has been from Peller Estates. The Estate is massive and extremely impressive! It is the closest to Niagara on the Lake. http://www.peller.com/niagara/homepage.php

If you venture to the bench:

Vineland Estates Winery is very picturesque with a huge selection of wines. They also have fantastic ice wine and a lovely restaurant!

Another suggestion - don't overlook the town of Niagara on the Lake! It is quaint and has lots of cute family run shops. It has also been featured in a few movies - notably The Ref. http://www.niagaraonthelake.com/

Enjoy your trip :)

I don't know about the stuff at LeCellier, but I went to law school in Upstate NY and went to Niagara on the Lake - highly recommend you visiting Inniskillin, like others have said. Compared to the Finger Lake wineries, it is definitely more expensive (but not as bad as Napa). If you do the tour, it includes tastings, and then on the other side of the large tasting room, there is a bar where you can taste the special ice wines that aren't included. The strawberry one is great, but didn't love the champagne celebration blend :) They are really known for their ice wines at that particular place. I would also recommend going to the finger lakes in upstate NY if you have time. It is about a 2 hour drive. Have fun!
