"Lay flat to dry" (clothes question)

I bought some sweaters this morning from and they are machine washable but the label says "lay flat to dry". They are 100% acrylic. Does anybody know if it really is that big of a deal to put these in the dryer? They are the long sweater coat type ones and they would take quite a while to air dry. What do you think?

One reason that I buy acrylic sweaters is so that I can dry them. But, they will last longer if you don't put them in the dryer.

If you don't lay them flat, they may easily go out of shape, shrink in the wrong places in the dryer, etc. Target, Walmart, etc has those mesh type dryers on little 3 inch legs. They are about 30 inches square. You can buy two, line them up and dry things that way. In the winter, I will lean the legs up against baseboard radiator and things dry over night.

I dry mine on low heat and it hasn't been a problem so far. The all cotton ones I do lay flat because I'm afraid they'll shrink.

i recommend this method. i used to just dry everything on delicate regardless of instructions unless it was something like cashmere. then one day i completely RUINED a sweater set by doing this. better safe than sorry.

I do always try to get stuff that is machine wash, tumble dry, but that is pretty tough to come by with sweaters!

Well, coming from someone who rarely dries anything (I fluff with no heat after they're dry though), I can safely say that I would follow the instructions on the tag. I'd never risk them getting out of shape.

I just hang them over the shower curtain rod.
