I screwed up. I have a conference at the Hilton Universal City and booked my flight to LAX when I probably should have picked Burbank, although Burbank has no direct flights and looks to be way more expensive from Seattle for my dates. I'm arriving at 3:15 pm on a Wednesday afternoon and will need to get from LAX to the hotel. Looking at traffic history it is bad. Any inside information on how to get there or do I just get an Uber and hang in traffic?

I have been using Midwilshuttle. for the last number of years. As they are a car service they can pick up curbside at LAX, where as with UBER you have to go to the transportation hub LAXIT.

It usually costs about $100 for me to go to Glendale, so Burbank would be around the same. Just go to their website and you can get a quote and then pay online in advance. That way even with LA traffic and price surges you are not paying anything extra.

There's public transportation if you have time and are a bit adventurous. There's a new transit center at LAX that replaces the old City Bus Transit Center and will eventually be fully connected to the new people mover. Right now the buses go to the new transit center with the green line. But the LA Metro B (red) line's Universal City/Studio City station is right there. I took it in 2022 and walked across the pedestrian bridge to take the free tram shuttle. It will also stop at the Hilton and the Sheraton, although I think you might need to tell the driver. It's the same kind of ride vehicle they use on the studio backlot tour.

One way fare is $1.75 if you can theoretically "tag on" for your last ride within 2 hours with a TAP fare card (or with their mobile app with compatible NFC). I paid $2 for each physical card a few years ago, but there's no card fee using the TAP app.

What day of the week and what airline? In any case, here's the generic map for that trip. It would require taking a free bus shuttle to the LAX/Metro Transit Center, taking the K (pink?) line to Expo/Crenshaw, transferring to the E (yellow) line up to 7th Street/Metro Center, and then the B (red) line to Universal/Studio City.
