Law and Order:SVU...Did I miss something?

I watch old episodes on USA all the time but it's been quite a while since I've been able to watch a new episode. I watched last night and felt like I was missing something. Has there some sort of romantic development between Benson and Stabler or have they just gotten so close as partners that they didn't feel they could make good decisions?

Nothing romantic. Just as you say, they have become so attached being single (now), they are each other's only personal contact, it seems. We don't even see Olivia date anymore.

I don't know though, it seemed out of character for each of them to hesitate to save a child

I think Elliot's separation has him really on edge. The scene where the guy had him around the neck and Olivia had to decide whether or not to pull the trigger was pretty intense.

I don't think they will split them up as partners... that would ruin the whole show, IMO.

You are right...splitting them up would be bad. But they are setting up Mariska Hargitay's maternity leave for like 6 episodes coming up. I read an interview in TV Guide with her about it. There is another female parnter (I forget who) coming in for Elliot..but she will be back a few episodes into the new season.

OK thanks guys. That clears things up a little. Just seems like alot of emotions were flying around last night and I was thinking "whoa I really missed something big here" .
I didn't realize that Mariska was pregnant. Hopefully she won't be gone long. I like the Law and Order:CI team but my favorite group by far is the SVU team. I'd hate to see one of them leave.

I know. I love Mariska! I even got my hair cut and colored like hers.

Mariska is about 8 months pregnant now & ready to POP! They've had to create a lot of situations (and leave out too many more,) where they only film her from the chest up.

I was feeling very stunned after last night's episode too. It was really bothering me, but then this morning I remembered about her being pregnant and figured they were getting ready for her leave. Hated all the intensity though. It was soo emotionally draining, and it's just a show.

I was feeling the same way. Even though I know she is pregnant and getting ready for her leave, during the episode last night I forgot. It was very intense and I was having a hard time with their partner issues. I had missed a few episodes along the way so seeing how close they were was odd. But understandable. I know once she is back from her leave they will be partners again.
