Sunday 28 February 2010 - Day Eleven
Eric was awake at 4.45 am (for anyone wondering, he didn't settle into any sort of a sleeping pattern!). He came in with us until we all got up not long after 8 am. The boys had rice krispies for their breakfast and I had froot loops and then we got ready and left for Epcot at 10 am. Our first stop was Spaceship Earth. Eric enjoyed pressing the buttons on the screen. I always find this ride very relaxing and I like the revamp where it tells you about the future technology at the end. As I hate driving, I am holding out for the self-driving car!
Next up, something I had been very excited about, we went to Innoventions to sign up for a Kim Possible mission. I adore Kim Possible (she can, after all, do anything) so I couldn't wait to give this a try. We were given an start time which just gave us enough time to walk over to our starting point which was Italy.
There we were given our Kimmunicator and the CM explained how the missions work. Our mission was to stop Dementor in Germany. For anyone who hasn't played and doesn't know, it's like a scavenger hunt around different countries in Epcot, saving the world from various KP villains. There are all kinds of neat tricks which happen when you find the right spot and trigger them off with your Kimmunicator. In this mission, I particularly liked that at one point we were at the model railway and the eyes of the people in the scene glowed red. Very cool. The ending to this mission was also very cool with Dementor making a brief appearance.
Eric was a little grumpy that he was not allowed to be in charge of the Kimmunicator so we gave him one of our phones to play with instead. We enjoyed it so much that we decided to take on another mission, choosing China as our next destination as we had arranged to meet Kari there for lunch.
Part way through the mission, we bumped into Kari who was doing some shopping in China, and it's a good job we did as she solved one of the clues for us that we were struggling with. So eventually Monkey Fist was defeated and we headed to the Lotus Blossom Cafe for lunch. This was another new restaurant for us and one that we enjoyed very much. Kari had orange chicken and egg rolls and we shared orange chicken with steamed rice and a beef noodle bowl. The orange chicken was particularly nice. Eric ate lots of rice and then finished the meal spectacularly by tipping the remainder of the beef noodle bowl over him and Andy! We changed Eric's pants but Andy was not so lucky in the change of pants department and had to dry off in the sun instead.
Kari was off to DHS so we split up after lunch and we headed to Mexico and the Gran Fiesta Tour ride. Eric was so impressed that he fell asleep, so I carried him off the boat and Andy went to bring his stroller in. We put Eric in and he stayed asleep so we decided to complete a mission against Drakken and Shego in Mexico whilst E slept. We particularly enjoyed this one as we both love Drakken. There must be more than one mission available in Mexico as we heard other people working on missions in the pavilion and they were doing different stuff to us.
Eric was still asleep when we left Mexico so we stopped at a stand to get a coffee - mocha for me and vanilla latte for Andy. We had our coffees and then Andy headed off to join the single rider line for Test Track whilst me and E went for a browse in Mouse Gear. Eric woke up as we got in the shop so we had a look round together and cuddled some plush toys whilst we waited for Andy. He had a great time, Test Track is his favourite ride.
We had a slow meander around the world, stopping at the African outpost so that Eric could bang on the drums for a while.
We stopped in Italy to have a quick look round the shop and when we came out the World Showcase Players were just starting their production of Romeo and Edna (!) so we sat down to watch that. One word: hilarious.
Next we had our picture taken with Belle and the Beast. Eric was very brave (the Beast is huge!) but didn't want to be put down. We have not met the Beast before, so another first for us.
We carried on to the UK where we completed our final mission of the day against Duff Killigan. Missions are available in seven of the world showcase countries and the other villains that we have yet to encounter are the Bebebots, Camille Leon and Senor Senior Senior and Junior (must seek them out next time as Junior is my favourite). There are different places to drop your Kimmunicator off when you have finished playing - we dropped ours into a post box in the UK!
We had a look round the Canada shop and then headed back to the US and the Liberty Inn for tea. This was yet another first for us. We shared chicken nuggets and fries, and a beef and cheese toasted sandwich with sun chips (kinda like nachos crossed with Doritos!). Eric ate some fries, sun chips and chicken and had an apple juice, we had a fanta. Nice food.
We called into Mouse Gear on the way out of the park and bought Eric a Mickey Mouse and Friends colouring book which we had spied earlier. We also stopped to have our photo taken in front of the Epcot globe.
Eric had a quick sleep in the car on the way to Downtown Disney. We went to the Christmas shop and chose a blue Mickey bauble and asked for it to be personalised with 2010 Eric's 1st visit. We decided not to wait for the personalisation but pick it up another night as Eric was getting tired. I also bought two books: The Everything Book of Christmas and The Great Santa Search.
When we got back to the villa, Eric had some cereal and Andy tried to put him to bed as usual but he wouldn't settle. Instead he fell asleep on my knee whilst we were watching the Princess Diaries 2, and Andy popped out to Walgreens for water and beer. We lifted Eric into bed when Andy got back and then had our baths.
Rounded out the night with Bud Lite for Andy and a mojito for me. I also had some Pixie Hollow candies that Kari brought us and we both ate some crisps that we'd bought for Eric but he didn't like. We went to bed at midnight.
