Laurie's Quest Continues....two more marathons in one year!!

This is just a quick update on yesterday's awesome workout, since I didn't get a chance to post:

I had to head to the gym for a TM workout since it was still a bit cold out. I only had to do 2 miles according to my Hal Higdon plan. Well, I decided to push myself a bit to see how I could do. I finished in 16:02!!! With an average pace of 7:56! My second mile was in 7:37!! Yes you read that right 7:37. I was so excited. Now, I don't intend to ever run that fast for a long distance, but I felt great after my workout, and surprisingly my legs are not even sore today!!!!

Goldcupmom, Tracy and Carole--Thanks for the kind words! I agree with you all...I can't wait for some warmer weather!!!!! Think spring!!

That is an amazing time! Congrats on such a fast mile, especially since you don't hurt from it today! You are doing awesome!

We are starting to get outside to walk and I had a hard time getting my DH up to 3.5...lol. He thinks he is going to stroll through these "cardio walks" that his doctor prescribed. By the end of the walk he was up to 3.8 but I think he is going to be a work in progress.

I have been MIA from my journal for the last few days, but I did get a workout in yesterday and today.

Saturday's workout: 4.01 miles in 37:50 min with an average pace of 9:25

Sunday's LR: 6.01 miles in 57:15 min with an average pace of 9:31. This was my longest workout yet, and my last mile was my fastest of the workout at 9:03....so I was very excited about that..to be able to run 6 miles and have my last one be the fastest of all was great.

This week is going to be interesting as far as getting in my workouts. I am heading to Baltimore for the National Health and Physical Education Convention from Wednesday through Saturday night. The hotel I am staying in has a fitness room, and I found some running routes along the Inner Harbor. So, I am hoping to get in my workouts.

I really need to keep up with my training this week, as I am planning on running a 5K next weekend. This will be my first race! I can't wait.

Nicole--Thanks! I was really surprised I wasn't sore after that, I guess that means I am really starting to get in better shape!

Carole--I think we are all works in progress, just at all different levels. I know I said it on your journal, but I will say it again...I think it is awesome that he is getting out there and starting to walk. He will get better, he just needs to keep at it!

Good luck getting your workouts in! Just do the best you can, it will probably be nice to get out in a new place! Congrats on your continued improvements! You are doing great, your times just keep getting better and better!:woohoo:

Laurie,

You are doing a great job! Your running times are getting better and better. Keep up the good work!:cheer2:

I hope you have a great week! Enjoy your time in Baltimore and know that we are cheering you on to VICTORY in your 5K this weekend.:cheer2:

Hey everybody..not really any time to update tonight. I am at my conference still, and don't have much time. I did manage to get a 4 mile workout in tonight on the TM at the hotel, and that will be it before my 5K on sunday. Pray for nice weather!!!!

I will check in with everyone this weekend with a longer update.

Sending you some :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard: for your 5K tomorrow.... Hope you'll do a race report when you get a chance.:goodvibes Have a great weekend and stay warm!:goodvibes

So, i am all excited to get home last night so I could eat some pasta and rest up for my race today. I go online to get directions to the starting line, and I see that the race has been CANCELLED!!! What a bummer! The cancelled because of the bad weather that we had on thursday/friday. So, at this point, i am so disappointed because I have really been looking forward to this race, and my Hal Higdon plan calls for a 5K this weekend.

So, what do I do....I go online and search for another race to do today!!! I FOUND ONE!!! It is about 30 min. from home and it starts at 1pm today! So, I am still going to race today!!!!

I will check in later and post my report.....I can't wait to run! I want to go NOW!!!

That's dedication - finding another race!

Good luck! Can't wait to hear your results.

Have a good week next week!

Way to go!! Good for you not giving up and finding another race! You're going to do great! Good luck! :cheer2: pixiedust:

Here is what I posted on the race report thread:

So, I got home yesterday from being at a conference in Baltimore all week, and go online to check on my race for today, and much to my dismay, I find out that they cancelled it. I was so disappointed. I had been looking forward to the race for weeks, and I really, really, really wanted to run. So, I decide to go online and search for other 5K races in my area for today, and low and behold, I find one that is about 30 minutes away!!! It was called the Leprechaun Leap 5K. I was so psyched!!!

So, I got up this morning, ate breakfast, relaxed for awhile and my DBF and I headed to the race (a 1pm start) around 11am. We got there checked in and relaxed in the car for a bit. It was extremely cold and very windy, so we had to stay in the car to keep warm. It was probably only about 30 degrees out with a windchill of about 15. Needless to say, I was not excited about the temperature or the wind.

Around 12:30, I got out and warmed up a bit by jogging a portion of the course to get my legs warmed up. I jogged about a 1/2-3/4 of a mile and then stretched a little bit before heading to the starting line. Around 1:05, they sounded the gun and we were off. I started out great, it was interesting weaving through traffic the first 1/2 mile or so. But, once I settled in I felt great. Because of the snow we had the other day, the original planned course had to be changed and we ended up doing two loops of a portion of the original course. The first lap was great, although I did feel like I was going so slow, maybe that is because of the wind, it was awful how windy it was. The second loop felt like torture, I felt like the race lasted FOREVER!!! I ended up finishing in 28:20.

I was very happy with my time, all things considering. First, that was my first 5K ever!!! Second, the wind was crazy. Anyhow, I have no idea what my splits were for each mile, because my Nike+ system on my ipod decided not to work just before the race was going to start, so I couldn't use it. But, I timed myself on my watch and saw the clock at the finish line. I am just so happy to have the first race out of the way, and strangely enough, I can't wait until the next race!!

Thanks so much to everyone for all of the encouragement, it felt so great to get the first race out of the way finally, I was actually kind of nervous about it. Hopefully, next time it will get easier!!!

Way to go Laurie!:cheer2: I admire your determination to find another race in the area.:goodvibes I am so proud of you for that and for running your first 5K! You are doing a wonderful job!:cool1:

Have a great week!:goodvibes

Thanks to everyone for all the kind words!! It definetely motivates me!

So, today the official results of my race were posted, and I was excited to see how I did.

Overall: 204 out of 350
Females: 70 out of 155
Age Group: 4 out of 8

Average pace: 9:10!!!!

i am very excited!!! I didn't think I was going that fast, I guess that is because of the wind!

Now I can't wait till my next race, although that is 13.1 miles, that is going to be crazy!!

Hi everyone! Wow, I have no been very good about keeping up with my journal this week, things have just been really BUSY!!! But, I have kept up with my training so that has been very good.

After my race last sunday, my legs were a bit sore on monday, and to add to it, I had to play in TWO ice hockey games on monday night. It was the playoffs in the league I play in and one of the teams didn't have a goalie so they asked me to play for them, so I played for my own team and then a game after that. And, of course, it was two of the toughest games I have played in in a long time! It would just figure! I was completely exhausted by the end of the night.

Tuesday after work I headed out for my 4.5 mile run. This was not such a good run for me. My legs were still a bit sore. I ended up running the first mile and a half, and then walking about a mile, then jogging the rest. I finished in about 47:00 min. My workout got split in half on my ipod system because I ended my workout by accident at the half way point.

On wednesday, I was not feeling it, so I took a rest day and skipped my 3 mile run or XT workout. Since I played hockey on monday night, I figured that kind of made up for the missed workout.

On thursday, the weather was BEAUTIFUL here! It was about 70 degrees when I got to the park after work. I felt great and headed out for another 4.5 mile run. This workout was by far better than tuesday. I jogged the whole way and felt pretty good. I finished in 43:04 with an average pace of 9:32. It felt great to have a great run!!

Friday is rest day! and today, I was not feeling so hot, so I didn't do my XT that I had planned. I had a pretty bad headache so I slept for part of the day and watched the Nascar Busch series race. DBF and I are heading to Martinsville, VA for the Nascar race next weekend and we are going to be camping, so we had to start getting all of our stuff together today! I guess that can be considered XT!

Ok, time to rest, gotta head out for my LR tomorrow of 7 miles! I am very excited. I am going to be trying ENduroshots for the first time tomorrow. I have never used them but hopefully it will be good for some extra energy on my LR.

I was wondering where you had gone! I'm glad your back and that things are going ok for you. It's good that you took extra rest days, my trainer always has me take off at least 1 extra day after a race, even if it is shorter then my average training run, because you run differently for a race. I hope you are feeling better. And good luck with your 7 miles tomorrow!

Wow! Great training! You must feel really good about your week. Enjoy your long run tomorrow. I'll be interested how you like the Endurashots.
