Laurel or Yanny?

I heard Yanny for the longest time and then I listened to it with a headphone in my left ear only because I’m deaf in my right ear and I heard Laurel..now I can’t hear Yanny.

I voted other because I have heard both.

This is weird. At first I listened to it several times and heard neither.
It was something in-between, like Yarry (yah-ree) or Yeary. No L or N sounds. Then I played it on a different site and clearly heard Laurel.

While watching a report on the Today show I heard Yanny, but listening to it on the link above I hear Laurel.

I think it really must be speaker dependent as some have suggested. Listening on my phone I definitely heard "Yanny", but on a desktop PC , definitely "Laurel"!

Laurel. Clearly Laurel. I have no idea how anyone is hearing anything different. There is no Y sound in there at all...to my ears.

It's got to be the frequency at which it's played, because I listed to it yesterday and I clearly heard Laurel. Played it for my kids on a different device this morning and I hear Yanny, but it was a much higher pitched, sort of nasaly sounding voice. Laurel was significantly deeper.

I heard Laurel.

My mom heard Yanny.

I read it has to do with frequencies, listener age, sound cards/device performance, etc.

The older we get, the less likely we are to hear higher frequencies. So, theoretically, older people should hear "Laurel" and younger people should hear "Yanny."

It's odd because I'm 32 and I very clearly hear "Laurel" and my mom is 60 and very clearly hears "Yanny."

My dad's an audiophile; I'll have to ask him later what he hears.

Edit: I asked my Dad. He hears, "Yarry."

This is bizarre.

Yanny clearly. They talked about it on Kelly and Ryan this morning and said it depends on what type of device you are using that will determine if you hear Yanny or Laurel.

That's what I thought as well, but when listening to the exact same device, half of the people I am asking are hearing Yanny and half are hearing Laurel. It's crazy. I can't hear anything but Yanny but my husband hears Laurel. We are the same age listening together to the same device. Bizarre!

When I heard it for the first time my mind registered it as Laurel. Then heard the Yanny and Laurel interchangeably. So I'm going with what I first heard: Laurel.
