Laundry

Laundry on the ship??

  • Yes, we do laundry on the ship

  • Nope, don't do it!

  • Laundry??!! As a newbie I hadn't thought about that!

With southwest allowing two checked bags free per person I can't imagine not having enough clothes...hmmm.

Sometimes I can manage not to have to do any and sometimes just a load of unmentionables and shorts are needed. We are doing a back-to-back next month and I will have to do laundry. My plan is Saturday morning but we shall see if that works out OK or not.

We'll have 10 days in a rental house at WDW before the cruise, so the plan is to do laundry right before the cruise. I suspect that we'll at least wash the swimsuits and some undergarments onboard.

I would prefer to do some than take lots and lots of stuff then bring it all home again dirty.

Anyways, I met some real great folks in the laundry room

Iron stuff when its quiet, there was a huge line on formal night, guys ironing shirts, I was secretly impressed, my darn hubby sent me to do it;)

 We typically do 10 day vacations and I do NOT do laundry UNLESS there is a crisis that has to be dealt with. The only other instance I would consider it is if we're staying in a private condo / home using our own beach towels which need to be washed. I did one load at Vero Beach this past summer on our 8th or 9th night 'cuz DS ran out of underwear.:rolleyes1 I packed 12 pr for 10 days I think for him but he kept getting soaking wet on all of the water rides at Disney (Splash Mtn & Kali River) and he changed more often than what I planned for.:sad2: So I did one load when we got chased inside by a thunderstorm. That was the first time I've ever done a load tho.

I always bring about 4 bathing suits for 10 days for each of us so I just rinse them out in the bathroom sink...

We use the ships laundry service.

We budget for this beforehand.

I don't do laundry or dishes when we're on vacation. :thumbsup2

We bring enough undergarments for the whole cruise, then use the ship's laundry service if we need it for more clothes.

I find their dry cleaning/pressing service prices very reasonable. Instead of dry cleaning our formal clothes before we leave, I do it the first day of the cruise since they wrinkle when packed anyway.

I "fell in love" with their cleaning service when I sent a pair of shorts out to be cleaned and it came back pressed with creases in the front!

We also budget this as part of our vacation expense, we don't spend much money on the ship for anything else.

Hi all,
For some reason I am finding the idea of doing laundry on vacation as, well, horrifying! So, how many of you do laundry on the 7 night?

Thanks!
Anne

I think it more horrifying to pay the luggage fees the airlines want for the extra clothes. I would rather do a little laundry than have to pay for more luggage.

We don't do laundry but then again we drive to Florida. This year, we have 2 nights at BLT right before and I think I will toss the clothes from the first 2 days in the wash before we leave. But it shouldn't be an issue as the machines are right in the room.

As for bathing suits, I hand wash them in the stink and then hang them to dry. It takes just a few minutes. They're not as clean as putting them in the machine but it gets off a lot of the salt and chlorine. And we always bring 2 or 3 suits anyway so there's always a dry one around.

Wow all these answers might explain why the laundry rooms were always empty. We did laundry halfway through and will do it again. I don't like stuffing my luggage full of unwashed clothes no matter where we are. It's not the most delightfull part of the day but it didn't take up that much of my personal vacation time

While I certainly don't enjoy it, I feel it gets necessary after a while. I don't mind packing a ton of clothes to last all week nor do I mind taking it all home dirty.
My problem, and maybe it's just me, is that we bring a little pop up hamper and keep it in the closet. It fills up every few days and I guess I could pull the luggage out from under the bed to empty the hamper. It's not really much harder to toss it in the washer.

I agree with the pp's who said bathing suits really smell after being in the ocean. I could probably have us all wear something more than once but my boys tend to stain their clothes often so they usually only get 1 day at most from anything. For dh and I, I just like that clean clothes feel and smell.

I didn't find it difficult to do laundry at all. The machines have a timer so I know exactly when I'm due back.

I found the atmosphere generally polite but then again I do laundry early, like Mon or Tues and by Fri I can pack all dirty stuff to take home. During one wash load, I ran into a guest that we had previously cruised with. The time slipped away and I was a bit late returning. To my surprise, some kind person spent the $ and put my wet clothes into a dryer. I put a post it on her washer to thank her. To pay if forward, I had only a few mins left on my dryer load and someone else was waiting for a dryer. I offered to put her clothes in my dryer once mine was done. She was thrilled; left me some quarters and ran off.
It's a shame people sometimes have to be so mean/selfish about the whole thing. I would never do laundry near the end of the cruise just for this reason.

In each of our land/sea and our one 7 night cruise we did laundry on the ship. We would rather do that than bring an extra suit case for the extra clothes just to avoid doing it.

I agree with the group who does not do laundry. I even got away with not doing it on the 14 day Panama Canal cruise and stayed on at DL for 3 nights. We bring enough clothes for the cruise and as one of our suitcases a rolling duffel bag that works great for the dirty laundry. We are only 2 adults which makes this much easier!:laundy::laundy:

I think this is the difference. We'd have literally a whole room full of clothes for all 4 of us for 17+ nights. I don't think any of us even have 17 outfits & undies if wanted to.

Depends on the length of the cruise...on 7 nights, sometimes. Longer than 7, yes.

We do laundry. I just have a hard time packing dirty underwear. My BFF does laundry because they only want to pack half the clothes. Also makes it easy and less of a drag when I get home.;)

I have 5 kids and can't stand the thought of packing dirty laundry.... So yes, laundry on vacation is a necessity for us:)
