Laundry Service

Has anyone used a laundry service to do the laundry? I am swimming in laundry and need to catch up. I would go to the laudromat myself, but I have a 4year old and 2 year old.

(We do have a perfectly fine washer and dryer, I am just about to have a nervous breakdown over the housework though!)

One of the laundromats in town has a laundry service. They charge by the pound. I haven't used it but I know a lot of single guys that do and they do a nice job. They will also press your clothing for you if you like. I have been tempted to do that. I brought some bedding there last week and met a friend for lunch, they have a coffee shop attached to the laundromat (great idea). I can't believe how expensive the machines are $4-6/load just to was and another couple dollars to dry.

I've checked into it once or twice and it was always $$$$

For some stuff it seems like it'd be cheaper just to throw it away and buy new.

You might want to check out www.flylady.net If you look about halfway down the page you can click on "Laundry Quandry" and you can get some hints on keeping up with the laundry.

To answer your question--no, I've never used a service. I feel that laundry is never ending. I normally do at least a couple loads of laundry a day to keep up because I don't like it to pile up. That reminds me--I need to go get my towels to toss in...thanks for the reminder. :)

I'd say it's probably a good idea for you to do this once in a while. If you can afford it, it would be wonderful to have it all caught up. Might help you keep it a little more under control for the next few weeks. Laundry is never-ending, isn't it? When I worked in a shopping center once, there was a laundromat next door. Occasionally, I'd take ALL our laundry to work with me and put it in the washers before I started work. Then I'd go move it to the dryers on my break, and use my (early) lunch hour to fold and put in my car. It was wonderful not to have to spend the whole weekend in our apartment complex's laundry room!!!!

Just remember not to take anything too fragile - those dryers are very powerful!!!!

Do you mean you have a washer and dryer in your home? Do you also have a husband in your home? Match the two, and your problem is solved. If you mean you have to go to the laundromat and you have a husband, give him his choice of going to the laundromat or taking care of the kids while you go -- you might want to choose the latter to get out of the house!

I used the local laundry service once when we were moving and were between houses - it was $$$, and apparently the person doing it was a chain smoker (we're don't smoke) because all the clothes smelled sooooo strongly of cigarette smoke I couldn't stand it

It was clean and folded very well though!

Too funny!!

And while I do laundry CONSTANTLY, it is nothing I would pay someone else to do. When my kids were small, it was one of the few chores I could do while I was watching them. It was more difficult to get the clothes put away, so often times, we *lived* out of laundry baskets, but it was still easy enough to pop a load in every hour or so.

I find that if you get really behind on the laundry that it is better to just take it to the laundry mat. That way you can put it all in at the same time, and what would normally take days to wash will only take a couple of hours. You may want to try that.
