I have used the hypo-allergenic powder pods without issues. DH has horrible skin allergies for fragrance. It’s 7th Generation brand, which may have less of the sudsing chemicals, since those chemicals are usually sulfate-based. I only use 1 pod/load.

The machines are not High Efficiency, heck, they are just barely efficient. I use laundry sheets (WashEZE) and, like @MomOTwins, divide and conquer the dryers. Just keep it simple: laundry sheets, small loads, and even smaller dryer loads. Can do EZ.
