We went to the hockey game Saturday night (go Pens!) and it was free practice jersey night for the kids. The mascot came up to our section and DS10 had the mascot autograph his jersey using DH's Sharpie pen. DS is wearing his jersey today for the 3rd day in a row, so it's going to need washed big time. Sharpies are supposed to be waterproof, but is there anything special I should do when I wash it? DS will be heartbroken if the autograph washes out. TIA!

Amy, I washed out autographs once. I was in the dog house big time.

I would suggest you "heat set" the ink by using your iron. Be careful not to melt the fabric on the jersey, it is probably synthetic. I would do it once and let it cool and then redo it again to be sure. That is about the only way I have to suggest. Wash it on delicate also and hang to dry.

Sharpies are very, very permanent markers. (I collect celebrity autographs, so I'm kind of well-versed in Sharpies :D ). I really think it would survive through the wash just fine, but if you're nervous about it - hand wash with Woolite or some mild soap. :D

Sharpies will fade after repeated washings...heat-setting with an iron is a good idea. Place a brown bag over the garment and iron right on top of the bag to avoid scorching :)
