Laundry on VACATION!? Do you...?

Am I the only one that has "germ" concerns about public laundry facilities? I would rather wear my jeans 100 times in a row than throw them into a washing machine that just had a stranger's underwear swimming around in it! I guess the dryer would kill any cooties picked up in the washer, but I just can't get past the ick factor. Funny, though, in college and my first few years in an apartment I did laundry in a laundromat all the time and it didn't bother me. I've gotten a lot more germaphobic as I've aged! I drive myself crazy sometimes!:upsidedow

I'm a bit like that these days too, but would use one if I had to (such as only have a few pairs with me and getting something all over them and not being able to wear again without washing).

I do laundry on every vacation I go on.

I buy powdered detergent & measure out a scoop per zip lock bag. The amount of bags I take depends on how long I will be there.

I try to do laundry every other day so I bring 2 bags of detergent for each laundry day. I always go home with extra but it's better to have extra then not.

I do my laundry when at Disney when we come back for our mid-day break.

I also bring dryer sheets too.

We end up wearing the same clothes over & over again so instead of bringing our not so favorite outfits we can just bring our fav's & wear them over & over again.

I also do laundry while on vacation. It was actually easier not to get it done when the kids were young. Clothing much smaller in size. We are a family of five. I like to do it and keep up with it even if we have more than enough clotes - just less to do when we get home. We have dvc now - so this works out even better than before where I had to go and look for a washer.

I also do laundry on our dcl cruises. Why not. Unfortunately, I wake up earlier than the birds - so while sleeping, I put a wash in - walk around resort/deck, etc. get coffee, read, etc.

I'm a jeans type of guy since shorts don't work well for me at all. Also my jeans tend to get abit dirty especially after wheeling around WDW all day long. The dirt goes from the ground to the wheels to my hands then to my jeans. So I wear a fresh pair of jeans everyday.

My cut off point is usually 7 nights. If I'm staying less then that I can pack enough jeans. More then that and it's easier to pack fewer jeans and do laundry. May is a 5 night trip so no laundry, September is going to be 10 nights and I'll do laundry once.

Over Thanksgiving our family (DM DF DH me DD DSIL DGD DS DDIL) had an orange pop party/laundry party after we returned from the parks. We were staying at POP and grabbed a table by the laundry building. We had a blast. BTW, at that time, dryer #9 at the 60's section never turned off...free drying. :dance3:

I used to, but not anymore! I refuse! When people try to talk me into staying in a condo or DVC, i have two things I bring up to oppose their suggestions; I'm not cooking or doing laundry on vacation and in those types of accommodations, I feel almost obligated!

Nope, no laudry on vacation for me! I just pack extra!

Thats exactly how I feel! :laundy:

I did my first load of laundry on vacation last week!

It was my first trip home to DVC's OKW and I decided before leaving home I'd wash clothes this time. I had dirty clothes plus I had both my and DH's running clothes from marathon weekend. It was great to get the wash done and pack clean clothes to bring home! Both times we did laundry we used the pool and hot tub ('cause I had a studio and studio's don't have w/d in them). It didn't even take as long as I thought it would.

It was funny though. There was a lady in the laundry room with me and she was just starting her clothes also. I turned on the water, dumped in the liquid detergent and threw my clothes in and shut the lid. She looks over at me and says, "Well, I'm gonna do it just like you did and just heave it all in there!" LOL

I know I must have had the dumbest look on my face because this is the way I ALWAYS do laundry, lol, and I think from what she said, maybe I'm not doing it right!! :)

We do our laundry mid-week like others had stated, usually while taking a break at the pool. Pack your dry detergent in baggies along with a few dryer sheets and I usually bring about $5.00 worth of Quarters in a seperate baggie. I always pack too many clothes ,since I like to wash "my favorites" and wear them again during my trip !!!:thumbsup2

Maybe it will be warm and you won't need so much jeans.

I am not sure I even own more then 5 pairs. :lmao:

Yes we often do a load or too, but DVC does make it easier. (even in studios.) This trip we didn't because the weather changed at the end of the trip and we had cold weather cothes, but we were out of warm.

Still often there is a lundry near the pool and that can help.

Have a wonderufl trip! :yay:

I've never done laundry on vacation. I just wear things twice if I have to, I don't really care. I don't mind doing laundry at home, but on vacation I don't want to worry about it. :)

For everyone that wears things twice...do you go in the summer? Because my clothes are usually damp with sweat after a day in the parks and 90 plus degrees with 100 percent humidity! I couldn't re-wear sweaty clothes, but I could re-wear jeans from a 60 degree day.

Yes, I always do laundry when I'm only vacation. Usually I only bring 3-5 sets of clothes though because I really don't like packing more than one whole bag for myself.:beach:

No, I was definitely thinking that if she was packing she must be going soon. I wouldn't re-wear jeans from a summer day, but then I wouldn't be wearing jeans on a summer day anyway!

Usually DH will take DD and her friend to a water park. In the meantime,I do laundry. I cannot stand to go home with lots of dirty laundry and I really don't want it in my suitcase. Sometimes on a long trip,I'll wash the clothes twice. It's a break for me-I can read or lay out quietly by the pool.

I brough 2 pairs of jeans for a week long trip. Now we did have laundry as an option but I think I wore one pair of jeans and washed them once.

Take a quart Zip-loc with detergent and a roll of quarters or two. I've done it before.....even on my DL Honeymoon.
