Has anyone done self-serve laundry on the Magic lately?
Do you know how much it costs per load to wash/dry?
Any trouble getting a machine?

I'm just trying to prepare, since I'm trying to minimize the amount of clothes we will pack, since 4 of us will be sharing a Cat. 9 cabin.

Any info/advice would be much appreciated!
TIA--

We can't remember how much it cost, but we never had trouble getting a washer...***but we targeted times when people wouldn't be using the washer...like port days

I did several loads this past week. It's one dollar to wash and one dollar to dry (45 minutes I think). An extra quarter in the dryer gets you an extra 15 minutes. I used the laundry room on deck 7 (starboard side, between midship and aft) and never had trouble getting a machine when I tried (although that has not always been my experience on past cruises - sometimes we have had to use them quite late).

HTH! :)

Thanks for the info!
Are there laundry facilities anywhere else but on Deck 7?
We will be on Deck 2.
(Last cruise we were on in 2005--I thought there was more than one laundry facility. . . .)

I believe there are three -- decks 2, 6 and 7, but I am not totally positive that my memory is correct.

thanks, Melissa!
One last question--did you buy detergent/fabric softener on the ship???
Or did you bring this with you?
Just wondering. . . .

Does anyone know the hours the Laundry area is open?

Last time...during the one of the sea days...it was very crowded. Laundry took a lot longer than it should have.

guess...I was hopeful...they were open 24/7. I am an early riser...thought it might be an option to put a load or two in before my pre sunrise deck walk/photo shoot.

thx for looking

Hi Turtlemom,

I have sensitive skin, so I ported my own detergent. However, they do have a dispenser that sells soap and softener, the detergent was Tide, not sure about the softener, possibly Bounce. Don't know what the cost was, since I didn't buy any. :)

I read a good tip on the DIS for bringing your own liquid detergent... take a clear bottle such as a dish detergent bottle and pour in one load's worth of detergent, then mark the side with a sharpie where the liquid is... continue to add one load at a time and mark the side with the pen. This way you can squirt the detergent one load at a time by the marks on the side of the bottle -- works like a charm! If you take powdered detergent, snack size ziplocs work great for a load's worth of powder. They are front loading machines, so you won't need as much detergent.

We were just a few doors down from the facilities on Deck 2. Each detergent pack (I think enough for one load) is a dollar each; we packed a large ziplock of powder detergent and dryer sheets. It got pretty busy on midweek; people were taking finished loads out and leaving piles on the ironing counter. I found someone doing laundry right before disembarking; probably just drying out stuff from Castaway Cay.

According to my Passporter book, the laundry rooms are Deck 7 interior starboard halfway between midship and aft across from 7590-7596, Deck 6 interior starboard midship across from 6588, and Deck 2 interior port just behind midship across from 2096.

HTH:)

We were directly across from the one on deck six last week and I don't think it ever closed. It seemed as though there was always laundry being done in there all hours of the day. The noise reaaly wasn't an issue except for one night when some people were being extremely loud in there around 3:00am. I understand the need for laundry to be done, but please be considerate of the cabins around the room. One word of caution though. If they have the spray bottles of water for the iron sitting out, double check what is in them before using them or pouring it into the iron. At some point bleach was put into one of the bottles and someone poured it into the iron. I was going to use the iron when I noticed te water fill area looked like it was bubbling so I opened up the fill area and smelled it and sure enough it was bleach. The water bottle still sitting there so I smelled that too. Same thing. The water bottle was removed but the iron remained there for use.

The laundry rooms sometimes run out of detergent by the end of the week. We just purchased small bottles of All or you can buy the indivual boxes of tide at Walmart, Target or even some local grocery stores. The small bottles of All do 2 loads of laundry, and we usually pack some dryer sheets in a ziploc bag. I am an early riser and was doing laundy on a sea day and had no problem. By the time it was done in the dryer, more people were streaming in doing theirs too, so I guess after 9am the laundry rooms would tend to fill more on a Sea day.
