DD had a tube of Bonne Bell Lip Licks. Wild Cherry.

Had it in the pocket of her skorts.

Skorts went through the laundry. Then the dryer. It MELTED in the dryer, and now, there are DARK RED SMEARS ALL OVER THE CLOTHES IN DRYER. Of course, there are a lot of whites in that load.

Please help me!! What can I use to get this stuff out??

P.S. DD (who at age 12 should know better), is now REQUIRED to check pockets of all clothes, not just hers, going into the wash . . .

Don't tell DH that someone 12 should know...only because I am really bad about this (age 30). Of course he has learned to check my pockets;) I think he has been lucky and always found it before it went to the dryer.

From a web search:

Lipstick is a complex combination of stains, at least including dye and grease. For the grease part, you really do need to have the stained items dry cleaned, or find dry cleaning fluid at a local hardware store and do it yourself. A degreaser might work as well, but actual dry cleaning fluid would be preferred. Remember to follow the directions on the dry cleaning fluid can.

For the dye part, plain rubbing alcohol should work fine. Do not try the alcohol before the dry cleaning fluid. You should do dry cleaning fluid first. Be sure that you don't mix the two chemicals, and that the fabric is dry from one before you add the other. Again, a dry cleaner would likely be the best choice, but you can try these things on your own. Also, since the stain occurred in the dryer, you can assume that the heat from the dryer has set the stain, at least a little. This is another reason to trust the dry cleaner instead of home remedies. If you take the items to the cleaners, be sure to explain everything to them. I hope this helps!

Thanks a TON, jfulcer!!!!!

It's the DYE, not the grease, that I've got now, so I'll head over to the hardware store and see if they have any of this stuff . . .

Deb,
My DD (at the age of 14.5 yrs.) left a red lipstick in her shorts pocket and the same thing happened to all of our Disney vacation t-shirts.

I also went online and someone had recommended ZOUT - which can be bought at your grocery store. It took the whole bottle - but I got all of those nasty red smears out of everything! This also works great on food and grass stains!

I am not sure if this would help but when ds left a red crayon in his pants we got it out of the clothes using lestoil. We rubbed lestoil and liquid Tide on each stain and wiped the dryer out with a cloth and lestoil. It all came out. I know liquid Tide is the best detergent for stains, (this information came from a competitor) and lestoil is suppose to be good for grease, so you may give it a try. Good luck

THANKS TO ALL !!!!

In the end, I used Pam and powellrj's suggestions and did the Zout and Lestoil together. Let them sit overnight, then washed in HOT water.

Stains are OUT -- and Lip Licks is thrown AWAY!!!!

Great News!!! I was wondering how you made out, I am glad you were successfull!!
