My son has allergies, asthma, & sensitive skin. We use the perfume/dye free detergent at home. I'm concerned that our clothes may still pick up the fragrances from the washer or dryer. Any experience with this?

I did not find any lingering smells in the washer dryers last month. If you are worried, I would pack plenty of clothes so doing a wash is not needed. Or you may first do a wash with no clothes to clean the tub.The dryer may have a lingering dryer sheet smell and I have no idea what to suggest for that.

I agree. DS is a lot like that and I would not risk washing his clothes just anywhere. Even if you need to wash for the others, pack enough for him to make it all week. Also, think about the bed clothes and towels and wash clothes. Will he be ok with those or not? DS is ok but I do bring his own wash clothes to wash his face with.

I have severe asthma, eczema and allergies (including chemical allergies). I can't use the linens at Disney (or any hotel for that matter) because I always react to the sheets and pillows but I've never done laundry at Disney but I share an apartment with 3 other people and I do laundry in my washer and dryer all the time and have never had a problem with lingering smells or chemicals. I had asked my allergist about that and she said that in her opinion it's not really a concern.

Is he okay with hotel linens? If he's okay with hotel sheets/towels I don't think there will be an issue with doing laundry.

We have animal and other allergies and asthma in our family, and I never wash clothes away from home, but that is because 2 of our childrens' issues are a constant battle to keep under control. I don't know what your son's allergies are or how severe, but I know washing alone doesn't eliminate the allergenic properties in animal danders or if he's allergic to, say, peanut oil residue. When we travel, I just pack enough clothes, but I bring a small travel tube of our detergent in case I have to wash something in the sink.

ETA: We always get an allergy cleaning so they wash all the bedding in hot water separately with, I believe, unscented products. Sometimes my one DS still ends up a little itchy, so I have to give him benadryl before bed (which I don't like to do) then shower when he wakes up.

My DD is allergic to parabens, which are contained in most laundry detergents. We always have to bring our own sheets when traveling. For Disney, we use Dreft (kept in an Owner's Locket between trips) and have never had an issue with allergies using the laundry facilities in our DVC units.

Wow! someone else who is allergic to parabens! Most people have no idea what parabens are. I'm also allergic to lanolin (very severe allergy) and very sensitive to sodium benzoate....it makes life interesting.

The only detergent I can use without breaking out is Arm and Hammer Perfume and Dye Free. Everything else makes me itch and/or get hives.

hadto smile when i read about dreft as the onlysoap to use as it is one of the worse for me. i broke out from just handling bay's clothes and had to change.

We've also been able to use Greenworks, but Dreft is more reliable to find.

It certainly makes travelling to Disney more of an adventure, since we have to bring all of our sunscreen (can't find non-paraben sunscreen -- other than the spray kind -- at Disney) and we want that in our carry-on, but the TSA regulations say otherwise, and we have to wait for our bags from Magical Express... And we either bring our own sheets or bring/order detergent or both. She also can't have tylenol suspension, etc. One trip, she broke out from something on the trip -- maybe even the seat of the plane. (She puffs up like the marshmallow man. And most cortisone treatments actually contain parabens!)
