I thought I saw a post on here a few day ago about the dish-washing detergent but can not find it -

So - anyone have any recommendations for:

1. an inexpensive dish washing detergent
2. an inexpensive laundry detergent (I have a front loader)

Thanks a bunch!

Sandy

We use the costco "free and clear" brand- liquid. It's $14 for a big Costco size. It's HE and we use it in our front loader. We use to use the regular kind but my daughter had a reaction to it. My mom uses the powder Costco kind

We also use the Costco diswasher soap. It comes in a two pack and is the gel kind. The powder didn't clean as well but that was ALL the brands.

Can you tell I'm a loyal Costco gal?

I just made the homemade kind the duggars use last week. It cost me $2.50 to make enough for 640 loads. I've washed several loads with it and am quite happy with the results. I also heard that you can use the same soap in your dishwasher. I tried a load of dishes with it today and was pleased. http://www.duggarfamily.com/recipes.html This is a link to the recipe. It was super easy and can be use in a front loading machine (which is what I have)

I use the homemade laundry soap too....I have used it for about 15 years now.

We never have found a cheaper solution to dishsoap that we were happy with so we just stock up on sales of the ones we like.

We have really hard water and I wasn't at all happy with the homemade detergent. I really, really wanted to like it, but the clothes just weren't getting clean and it left a film inside our washer.

I've since discovered Charlie's Soap and have been thrilled with it in our front loader. It's about as economical as the homemade detergent (especially if you buy it by the 5 gal. bucket) and only requires a tablespoonful per load.

I've heard that you can also use the liquid Charlie's Soap in the dishwasher, but I haven't tried that yet.

I use the Kirkland powder for my washer (and it is HE so it will work in front-loaders) and the Kirkland gel dishwasher fluid. Both are very highly rated in Consumer Reports. Yesterday I just paid $9.99 for two 125oz bottles of the dishwasher gel.

The homemade laundry soap just doesn't work for me either. Now I do have a 12 year old boy :rolleyes1. I will use it on lightly soiled clothes like a load of towels and it stretches my supply of regular detergent.
