On our first full day in WDW this July - a Saturday. I have planned MGM EMH - we will be up early due to time difference between U.K. and EST. Thought we would return to hotel, ASMo late morning and then go over to AK in time to catch the parade(3pm/3.30pm?) and a few rides - I hear the animals are meant to be alert late in day.

My question is that we will be looking to do dinner - what is the latest time we can get served in Tuskers - would we be able to go in just before closing time (hopefully 6pm) and stay for an hour after the park officially closes - or do the counter eateries close early at AK - I don't think we've been in AK late in the day before. Also don't fancy doing RFC, but 7pm over there will feel like midnight because our body clocks won't have adjusted so might not feel like heading off somewhere else.

Sorry to say but Tusker House closes really early, I think it was around 3-3:30. I was a little put out last August because this is my favorite counter service and we planned a late lunch before the parade, even hopped from another park just for this reason, and they were already closed. :( Now I make sure to have an early lunch here and then snack later on if I get hungry. The meal deal is great because I can then get an ice cream later.

I think the only restaurant in AK that stays open after the park closes is Rainforest Cafe. Don't know if you have considered this restaurant?

Thanks for the responses. I have now decided to go over to AKL instead once the park has closed and have arranged a ps for Bomas. Have been there already and know DD doesnt like the food there - so she is going to the kids club there to eat and play whilst we have our meal and a few drinks.

I'll catch Tuskers on another day - I enjoy a late breakfast there.

but a CM did share with us a tip about the animals late in the day at AK.

She told us to beeline it over to Asia and the Tigers right after or during the parade to see the tigers swimming.

We did this two afternoons and got some great pictures of these normally sleeping cats, running, leaping and swimming! The CM's did not chase us right out at closing time either. They were happy to chat about the tigers and other animals.

We also took the last safari ride one afternoon and saw all the animals up and active...the lion was actually roaring (to be let into his cave door).

So it still might be well worth it to head over to AK late, prior to going over the AKL for dinner to view the animals.

I am so glad I read this thread. I had no idea that the restaurant closed so early. For heavens sake, why?
