I was talking at work with some people about the experiment last week about not using wristbands for Evening EMH. I was told that it was a complete failure and before the week was out they went back to using wristbands.

Thanks for the inside info.

And I, for one, am not surprised at this outcome.

I didn't see anything wrong with the wristband system.

It worked for us every time.

I think we all saw this coming!! The wristbands have worked just fine if enforced in the past. I remember several times after we got ours, people coming up and asking where they could get theirs. When they said they were not resort guests, they would be upset as if this was a surprise! Do people do any research before coming the WDW?

Depends when you define your week, I guess, but no wristbands on Friday night at Epcot... I'm not an expert, never having done EMH's with wristbands, but the PPP with them did seem easier, although having to keep your key handy to ride was no worse than having to keep it handy to get FPs during regular hours... and there's just no way most of the CMs were looking at keys close enough to see the dates on them.

I just got back from WDW yesterday. I have never done an EMH with the wristbands before, but I just wanted to add my two cents. We did the evening EMH at Epcot on Friday, too, and like the PP said, we had to show our cards. It wasn't a big deal at all. We got to Epcot after EMH had started, so we had to show our cards to get into the park. The CM's closely checked our cards for dates at the attractions. The park was really, really empty, so we weren't waiting in long lines while they looked at the cards or anything like that. A CM checked the cards before we went into The Land building and then we could do everything in that one building. The Living Seas building worked the same way.

It doesn't matter to me which way it is done with wristbands or with cards, but I just wanted to share that our experience with the cards wasn't bad.

The wristband system should work fine for EMH and parties, since the bands are visible and don't require time-consuming interaction between CMs and guests. A quick glance, and they see it (or don't). The only deal-breaker is lazy/incompetent CMs.

During rain or cold, it makes checking bands harder. When ponchos or sleeves cover the wristbands, CMs would have to stop almost everyone show their band.

We went to a P&P party where it MONSOONED all night. Most people had on ponchos or jackets, and we saw TONS of people without wristbands throughout the night, including on rides.

It's easy to understand how that happens. It's late, and tired, surly guests who've been slogging through downpours all night might balk at pulling up their sleeves at every ride. If enough of them act huffy toward a CM, the CM might just make things easier on him/herself by not bothering to ask.

Hmm... maybe they should just stamp everyone's forehead with that invisible UV ink they stamp your hand with, then install black lights at each ride so we all glow in the dark. :rotfl:

Now, that's an idea! :thumbsup2 *LOL*

:lmao: That is funny.

:thumbsup2 But, pretty brilliant. We were on a Disney Cruise that stamped our hand with invisible ink to mark we had attended immigration at St. Thomas. They had everyone put their hands under a special light before we could get off the ship. Also, it seems to work at CEC to keep the kids with the appropriate adults. It could work at WDW too (and would be cheaper than the wristbands in the long run).

My daughter works at an EMH ride at AK and was told in a meeting that they thought the key system worked well.

Now she didn't like it nor did her co-workers but might be that different areas felt different about the system and how it worked.

I'm so glad to hear that! I hated the idea of having to dig out my key all the time, and having to fight leftover crowds for restaurants, fireworks, etc.

All they need to do is enforce the wristband system. Problem solved!

this looked like a problem waiting to happen. YES - it is a pain to stand in a line to get a wristband. BUT - its also a pain to pull out your key each time you to to an attraction. Not too bad for me since I would have it in my front pocket, but not easy for a lot of people. Seems like at best a draw - less time to get in the park, but more time to be stopped while in the park. Its also harder to tell who is an onsite guest.

I thought it was only supposed to be for a few days and they had planned to go back to wristbands. :confused3

We were in Epcot on Friday and it seemed fine. The only real difference I saw was that there were a LOT of extra CMs around making sure everyone knewin advance to get out their key and be ready to show it. Didn't really bother us much at all but I can see how it would be annoying for the CMs.

Personally, I think it would be a great pain in the buttkiss to produce room keys for my progeny at every ride-------they were trained at a early age to flash the band at the rides........All that training gone to waste.........
I am the keeper of the keys since the 2003 mishap---------here hoping they decide to keep the ugly, yet enduring wristbands:rotfl: :rotfl:

I don't understand, How is it a pain to stand in a short, fast moving line to get wristbands? :confused3 I have never waited in a line more than 5 minutes to get ours. When you see CMs out there, you go and get your band. Its a no-brainer that digging out room keys for every ride would cause more problems for disney than it would solve (backed up entry ways, lost keys)

Seems to me by even considering eliminating the wristbands, Disney isn't looking to make it easier for resort guests, but rather trying to cut the bottom line by not having to buy wristbands and staff the wristband lines.

I have never understood why you can't get your wrist band at your resort. It would make things go faster if they had a few locations, like at the concierge desk and the pool to get wrist bands as well as a few spots at the parks.

They would have a great deal of trouble distributing the right number of bands in the right color (anhd keeping track of which color was for which day.)

They would also have tremendous temptation for the bands to "disappear" from storage at one resort or another due to the scattered nature of their distribution.

Keeping the distribution IN the park that was current for the night is a much tighter system.
