Late Summer/Early Fall Incentives

Definitely not waiting that long! Haha. I want my points loaded before August 28th to book for spring break next year - I suppose I could wait and borrow 2026 points to save on another few weeks of dues, but seems like more trouble than its worth. (I also have my CCV resale points that won't be loaded until sometime in September, I imagine and, ideally, I'm going to try to sub those in for the spring break trip, but want to make sure I have my reservation guaranteed at the 7-month mark.)

Ok, better get off the computer here. Typing all of this this morning from my AKL savanna view balcony :-) . We have lighting lanes starting at 9:15 (Peter Pan)!
Understandable in your situation. I was only interested in PVB and since it got worse it looks like I am still watching the resale aggregators while 9/29 approaches. I can't believe your trip is already here. Hope you're having a great time!

Yes! Very important you mentioned "at that time" since it could increase.
Been looking for info on this, very helpful! We own a bunch of Feb resale points at different resorts. No direct.

Is it accurate to say that we can buy 100 poly direct points and be able to use those to book at the newer resorts including VDH/RIV, and at some point in the future buy another direct contract to get to the blue card minimum?

With the d23 discount and a few bucks off add-ons at the 100 level it's not that much worse of an incentive than 150 currently and we don't really need 150 points there as we'll be mostly in studios.

The short answer is yes. But if you wait long enough (based on earlier trends) eventually Disney will raise the direct threshold above 150 points.

Maybe this is what my guide was getting at on the 150 point contracts and passing them on. That is, if a single 150 point contract was enough to get direct benefits when you got it, if you pass it to a child, it will continue to be eligible for direct benefits for your child if they get it (as opposed to smaller contracts which would presumably need to meet the future direct points threshold).

(And, yes, we are having a great time! Checking out of AKL and into RIV today for 3 more nights before we head home 🙂.)

Can someone help with a couple questions regarding the AKL add on discount. I am currently a resale only.

  1. If I add on for 150 points, it would be $200 per point. I think I am eligible?
  2. Can I sign up for D23 and Visa to get that $1500, don't currently have either. My wife and I are amateur churners so don't love the idea of using a new card for this but I think it could make sense
  3. My use year is Sept, when do I need to close to get 2024 points and would be eligible for MB?

Got a couple of my own, pretty sure if they don’t have 150 points each they wouldn’t get benefits but hey that’s future me’s problem!
It doesnt matter if you get to 150 by splitting contracts into 75 and 75 or three 50s as long as you get to 150. For resale buyers going direct they can add on in small increments to get to 150 over time if they want

1. $195/pt
2. Visa: no. No incentive there. D23: not sure.
3. I think you just need to start the sale before incentives end (Aug 13 but could end earlier).

$195 for direct at AKL is hard to digest when resale is ~$95-$100. I have a resale membership with AKV in it and feel OCD about putting direct points in there. I have another UY with direct at different resorts.

Direct pricing on any resort is hard to digest, for what it’s worth. Some options are worse than others though. I don’t think splitting and AKV contract into smaller chucks is such a bad deal. But. The dues are a lot higher than I’d prefer. So ongoing costs over time are much higher.

I see your point, but for me, we don't own there and that is what the wife loves. I like the idea of the concierge rooms also. We don't live Riv. I guess the difference between direct and resale could drive us to Poly for $4500 more.

If you love AKV and desire concierge there, buy there. I suppose this incentive is good to get direct points.

If you're looking at AKV primarily for concierge then buying there is not a bad idea, but you can also do that with resale at 40%-50% less. And resale AKV will get you into Poly and a bunch of other resorts for many years to come.

Keep in mind that the concierge rooms are very hard to book even at 11 months out. They are all 100% walked so if one becomes available on some day at 8:00:00am it's gone by 8:00:01am. You can pick up "scraps" from walkers but that is a lot more likely to happen with the 1BR units, not studios. And those are about 45 points/night on average so 150 points doesn't get you very far. You're probably not going to want to do that every time when standard view and savanna view are much more economical (not to mention Value). AT some point it just makes more sense to book Savanna view and use the point savings to justify dining at some of the great restaurants at the resort.

I'm not saying AKV is a bad idea - we own there and have stayed multiple times in concierge. If you don't own there, then staying in concierge is a matter of luck and chances are very low (spotting 1-2 lone nights randomly, or waitlist) so owning definitely helps. But even in the 2 years we've owned there, I noticed it's gotten substantially harder to book those rooms. Better to know that in advance...

Appreciate the insights. I am trying to justify direct to get the bennies and ability to stay at DLH and Riv also. Mostly AKL is easy to book at 7 months except concierge and value and it is possible concierge could be a one and done for us so maybe not the best idea. It is my wifes favorite though. Need to think it through more. The total initial direct price to get the bennies is what I am looking at but might not really be the best move. Maybe I will wait for something better. Also the timing is just right MB and our Sept use year.......

I am a little confused with what discounts apply to which resorts...
If I want CFW, am a Visa card holder, interested in MB, what other discounts might there be?
What would my bottom line price be for 150 points. not including closing costs/

Here's how you do that:

"I want this, and can afford it."

Justified!

I would not hold my breath waiting for a better deal on direct points than what is offered now. Will it happen? Probably. When will it happen? Who the heck knows?

Signed,

[Removed incorrect info]
you could buy the D23 gold card for I believe $50 and get $500 off your DVC purchase.
