Late ressie at Ohana, never again.

Well heck, the next time we go, maybe we'll be the only ones in the restaurant.:scared1:

Well heck, the next time we go, maybe we'll be the only ones in the restaurant.:scared1:

We'll definitely be there too! :thumbsup2 I love Ohana's and have gone at least once for dinner every trip. I've never had the most amazing service, most of the time it's so-so service. I always plan at least 1 1/2- 2 hours for 'Ohana's as we've always had to wait at least 30 minutes past our ADR for a table (the longest has been an hour) and usually 10-15 minutes in between each side/meat being brought out. I'm not in a rush to get anywhere or get back to a park. I like the food but there's nothing I feel like is the best thing I've ever eaten. I guess I just don't have high expectations and I still consider the view/atmosphere/ambience and the fact that it's all you care to eat (if you care to wait) of a variety of items a good value for $30 at WDW. Could it be better? Yes. But I will continue to go there mainly for the many memorable conversations with family and friends that Ohana's has afforded me by not having me in and out in an hour.

During our last trip we had an ADR at 8:30 p.m. We ate a late lunch and a snack so we wouldn't be dying of hunger when we got there and we would be able to enjoy the pace of our meal.

I made DD25 ADRs at Ohana for 9:50 as that was all that was available. A little background. Last month I went with DD25, DSIL, DGS3m DD23 and DD16. It was DD25, DSIL and DGS3 first time going to Ohana. DSIL and DD25 loved it as did DGS3 because he loves snake (his way of saying steak). So tomorrow (Oct 25) is DD's bday and I made the ressie for Oct 24th and 9:50 is all I could get. I booked a room for DD and DSIL and agreed to keep the grandkids for the weekend (DGD is 7 months old). Its my bday gift to them (DSIL's bday is Nov 3). Well DD just called to say that service was very slow and that their server handed them off to another server that was on the other side of the room (server handed them to the other at around 10:15) DD said there was a 10 min wait between meats and 20 mins before they were asked if they wanted dessert, another 10 mins before they received it. I had noted that they were celebrating DD's birthday and the server brought out a cupcake 10 mins after the bread pudding (even though DD told her the bread pudding was for one since DD doesn't like bread pudding, would have been nice if DD could have enjoyed her Cupcake while DSIL was enjoying the bread pudding). DD commented that the server (not theirs) that brought out the bread pudding was very witty and had a great personality (he commented as he was pouring on the sauce over the brea pudding to eat it all since it was calorie free. He had served his customers shrimp and had a few left and asked DSIL if he wanted some, DSIL said sure I'll take 2 and Server gave him 3 one to grow on (DSIL is 6'4). DD made the comment to me why couldn't we have a server like him. She said the food was good except the hit or miss meat that could be overdone and they will be back again only at an earlier time. I joked that any further resort ressie will depend on availability at Ohana.

DSIL spoke with the manager and told him how we were there last month during free dining and how great it was, so much so they made sure they came back again a month later. The manager was not happy that they were handed off to another server and comp'd their meal, they only had to pay for their drinks.
I am afraid I don't understand what the problem was. Wow, I sure hope no one has to wait more than a minute in your party in the future.
Why was the dinner free, because a new waiter helped out? I must say, this is unbelievable..
Tell me I didn't understand this post.
This is a very casual restaurant, I don't expect white glove service and neither should you.

I don't think Ohana's great but it's pretty good and I am actually hungry for some pork dumplings right about now.

I will never book any earlier than 8:30 again for the reason that by then the kids' "activities" are winding down.

We just ate at Ohana's on 11/3 and it was wonderful. We had a late-ish ressie for 8:15PM. The service was a bit slow, but there was so much food it was nice to have time to enjoy it. There is nothing I hate more than starting to eat my salad and having someone shove my main course in front of me. We also had two different servers, but I enjoyed it because they were both funny and attentive to our needs.

I'm sorry your family's dinner at Ohana's wasn't up to their expectations...but I think that like many places these things can be hit or miss depending on day, time, person, place, etc. Hopefully their next visit will be very special and fun!

What time do the kids' activities end at night?

We go to O'Hana's every trip, but this one could only get an 8:50 reservation. (I am going to keep trying though!)

Have been to O'Hana's 3 times now...twice for dinner and once for breakfast. One dinner was amazing, with amazing service, highlight of our trip....next time we went for dinner, service was so-so, food was slow coming out and was really just an average experience. Breakfast was pretty good, but not amazing. I guess the bottom line is, go with no preconceived notions...you may or may not have a great meal, or a great server. Too bad there is such inconsitencies, but overall, I think it's a good option for a TS meal.

Seriously, after reading your title, I read no further...I have heard this about late reservations at Ohanas several times. It happened to my SIL last year,,,,they had an awful experience....THIS last visit we did early dinner ADR and we ALL had a great experience, YUMMY fun experience.
Sorry to hear about your experience!
