Hi All! I am wondering how does Disney knows who is staying on property to allow them to be there for late night magic hours? I am thinking about rides and such. Also, how late are Magic hours normally? I am going in the middle of November if that matters...

While there can be exceptions in any given week - there are two PM Extra Magic Hours in the general Extra Magic Hour rotation - Wednesday PM at MK and Tuesday PM at Epcot. PM Extra Magic Hours are 2 hours.

Epcot PM Extra Magic Hours are (almost) always 9pm - 11pm.

MK PM Extra Magic Hours will vary depending on regular park closing time, which can vary at MK.

DHS has weekly PM Extra Magic Hours scheduled on Sunday through the end of March, then it converts back to AM EMH for April and beyond based on the current schedule. They swapped AM for PM EMHs at DHS given the current Rise of the Resitatnace boarding group process at rope drop. It is TBD if they ultimately continue to move EMHs to PM for April+ at this point.

Evening EMH are 2 hours after the posted park closing time. So for example, on Tuesdays when Epcot has evening EMH, they are usually from 9-11pm after the park closes at 9. Right now the pattern for evening EMH is Hollywood Studios on Sunday, Epcot on Tuesday, Magic Kingdom on Wednesday. Check park hours calendar for specific park closing times (subject to change).

They scan your magic band at the entrance to every ride.

Ok, makes sense! I was just confused since last time I was there they only scanned for fast passes.

Thank you!! for the dates I am going it looks like Friday is a PM extra magic hour (Nov 20). It would be amazing if that was the case since we have a beach day planned for Saturday and then leave Sunday. Do you know if a lot of people take advantage of the PM extra magic hours? I think I have read that most take advantage of the AM not the PM?? any thoughts?

PM EMHs, especially at MK, are quite popular - personally I avoid them if possible. Epcot PM EMHs provide a decent value, in my opinion. Opinions will vary though.

Where are you getting those hours for 11/20? Disney doesn’t publish hours that far out yet (they only do a rolling 190 day basis on their calendar) so just wondering where that info is coming from.

I have not seen Friday PM EMH in a very long time. Curious where you are seeing that, since Disney has only posted hours out about 6 months on the website. In any case, in my experience, these days, PM EMH tend to be very busy. Several years ago when MK was open much later, pushing EMH into very late hours (like 11pm to 1 am, or midnight to 2am), they were not usually that busy. But with earlier closings, EMH tend to be much busier now.

My travel agent gave me an overview itinerary? It does not say times it just says evening hours?

Yeah, I’d be suspicious of that info. Generally speaking park schedules outside of 190 days may be unreliable (and a Friday PM EMH would be outside the normal rotation). That Friday, at MK at least, is likely to be a Mickeys Very Merry Christmas Party event, based on past calendar trends.
