Late checkout

checkout is at 11 AM i think...
how late you can check out beyond that depends on the resort and how busy they are, and whether your room is already assigned to someone else...

It is 11 am. For the sake of the newly arriving guests, try to get checked out on time :flower: . When we were trying to check in this last trip, they said it would be after 5 before we could check in, and he hinted to that being due to a late checkout. If everyone checked out on time, then maybe wdw would be able to let people check in closer to 3 pm?

If you have park tickets or something else you are wishing to do, they will store your luggage for you. We stored ours for a few hours on our last day, and it was really an easy process.

Thanks. I was just asking because I read a thread in which someone mentioned booking a room at the Swan with a late checkout of 2pm. I've never heard of booking a late check out in advance, and realized I didn't know what WDW's check-in, checkout times are.

Thanks again.

Shel

No problem, just so you know, about the check in time, I was sure it was 3. I HAD read my information, just quickly. If you read carefully, it does say that checkin is AFTER 3. Apparently this means there is no 'guaranteed' check in. We had two cm's that didnt even realize this, and told me to go ahead and wait in the lobby, our room would be guaranteed at 3. After a 2 hour wait, a supervisor told me at 3:30 that checkin is AFTER 3, not AT 3, and really made me feel like I was the biggest idiot alive. So now I just want to make sure that everyone knows this, so they dont have to go through the same thing! :flower:

It depends on how busy the hotel is.

Normally we were allowed a late check out at 12:00 and one time 1:00 @ POR but last week we were there and were told that they could not do any late checkouts that week.

So, from experience I believe it depends on how busy they are.

The latest checkout we've received is 1pm at a Disney resort. Typical check out is 11am and check in is after 3pm. Because the Swan is not technically a Disney resort though, they may have different check-in/check-out times. For example, with some frequent guest programs, you can have a guaranteed late check-out time. With Disney, you usually have to wait until the night before to make late check out arrangements.

No late check outs at DVC resorts, so check out is 11AM. Check in time at DVC resports is later than non-DVC resorts, 4PM, but it still might be 5 or 5:30 before you get your room.

That's good to know! I didn't realize that it could be so late in the day. Now I can have dh prepared for a wait.

I'm STILL waffling on where we'll stay our other nights, so this makes a difference.

Thanks

Shel

If available this is how a late checkout works:

11:00am = normal c/o time.
Up to 1:00pm = Complimentary.
Between 1:00pm and 5:00pm = ½ the rate you are paying.
After 5:00pm = full rate.

Wen we stayed at WL in July, we asked for a late check-out and were allowed to stay until 1.

We are traveling with a 10 month old and I am 7 months pregnant. Our flight doesn't leave till really late. Do I request the late checkout and pay the 1/2 day rate at check in? Will that get me better results? Should I explain to the CM why?

It will depend on how full your resort is. You might not get any late checkout at all. It just depends. They might not know if late checkout is available until the day before or the day you leave.

This past January at the Polynesian, I asked for a 12pm checkout and they said I could stay until 1pm. I had to leave by 12 anyway, but it was a nice offer.

Another solution would be for Disney to have a reasonable fee for late check-outs, i.e. 10% of the room rate per hour. For example, on a $300 room at the Poly, a two-hour late check out would be $60.

The resorts could keep half this money, credit half to the inconvenienced guest, and everyone would be happy.

I tried to pay for a late check out (3pm) once at the AKL. We had a sick 5 year old and wanted her to get to stay in bed as long as possible. There was not a 1/2 day charge. I chose not to keep the room because there was no 1/2 day fee. We could only stay until 3:00 by paying another night, not at the discounted rate we had, but at full rack rate. I was not will to pay almost $400 for those four extra hours. They offered us a 1PM check out, which we took and then moved the baby to the lobby on one of the couches. Didn't want to expose all the other people, but we really had no choice.

It used to be based on rack rate, but last year it changed to the rate you are paying. It is also based on availability.

Another note. Not only is it based on the resorts occupancy. They also only allow 2 rooms per housekeeping section. Depending on the resort there are around 16 rooms per section.

The only times we've been able to get a late check-out, 1 pm, is when we were then going on to another Disney resort. Even then, we have to hang around and wait because our room is seldom ready before 4 pm.

What inconvenieced guest are you speaking of? The ones just checking in aren't guaranteed a room til after 3pm. It could be as late as 5pm and you still can't be considered inconvenienced.
