(I think this belongs here, but if I am wrong, feel free to move it.)
What happens if I accidentally checkout late? I know that someone can call Mousekeeping early in the morning and see if we can checkout later, but what happens if someone forgets and everyone assumes that they did and we have permission to do so? It sounds a little crazy to ask, but I want to make sure I have all my bases covered since I have never stayed in a Disney hotel before; we have only stayed at ones off property nearby in order to take advantage of Florida resident discounts. We are in a new phase of Disney travel and decided to we want to experience the resorts and what they have to offer. That being said, off property hotels have a $50 late fee and you have to be out by 1pm. Does Disney do something like this or will I be charged an astronomical price? Luckily we always make the 11am check out time, but being able to sleep in a little later is appealing. It would certainly be a last minute, on the fly decision if we do so, but I am worried that we will forget to ask and then have to pay almost the equivalent of another night.

How do you "forget" to do something like that?. You know already what time regular checkout is. If you want a late check-out, then you will need to make a conscious decision to ask for one, relatively early in the morning. And to have a back up plan because getting a late check-out at Disney is not common. Sleeping in late won't be an option.

I don't know what the penalty is - whether it's a nominal fee or a full day at rack rate. But I guarantee you'll still have Housekeeping knocking on your door, likely well before 11:00, asking when you will be leaving.

I would imagine the penalty could be up to the cost of a night's stay, but it would be up to the discretion of the hotel.

I agree late checks outs are rare but even if they give you one I wouldn't count on sleeping late as housekeeping generally wake you up at 8am sometimes before on check out day wanting to know when they can get in.

We always check out exactly at 11 am. Our last trip at SSR housekeeping were at the door wanting in at 7:30am. We told them we check out at 11am. My boys were leaving the room to do something at 10am and she was standing just outside our door just waiting to get in.

If you forget to ask you will need to be out by 11am as simple as that. Even if you do ask chances are it will still be 11 am.

At other hotels we would put the Do Not Disturb sign on the door when we were in the room and were never interrupted by housekeeping. I was not aware that Disney did not have things like this. It was also a simple question since we are late sleepers. When at Disney, we sometimes stay out very late. Being on property would give us the opportunity to stay out later since we would have transportation driving us around. I thought people on here would be helpful.

We answered your question. Just because you don't like the answers does not make the people answering unhelpful.

I said I thought people on here would be helpful because I was asking a genuine question. Her reply was a little rude in my opinion.

Thank you. That is what I thought but was unsure. I have read conflicting reports about late checkouts, checking out on time, penalties, and everything in between, I have no idea what the policies are anymore. Coupled with the fact that I have stayed in numerous hotels in the area who have policies very different to Disney, I was not sure who was right and who was wrong. It is much easier to ask people who have actually done the checkout process themselves.

Disney does have do not disturb signs, but I think if it's your check out day, then all bets would be off. Housekeeping knows which rooms are scheduled to check out, and they need to get in and turn the room over. I really don't know what would happen if you didn't check out on time, but I wouldn't want to be hit with a bill I didn't expect.

you asked a genuine question and got a frank honest answer based on Disney experience. I fail to see the problem or why an attack was necessary.

As stated a do not disturb sign will not stop housekeeping from trying to get into a room they need to turnover especially if you have forgotten to ask for a late check out.

A lot of people do not actually check out in person at disney Hotels (standard practise actually) so housekeeping do not know if people have left the do not disturb sign on and gone or are still sleeping and they will not hesitate to wake you up to find out. Disney hotels operate at a very high occupancy and need people out to turnover the rooms.

I think the official policy is Disney does not do late check out but sometimes they are more flexible if they have room. If you forget to ask you will be automatically checked out at 11am.

We have asked for late check out in the past. Once we were granted a 1pm check out without a fee and once we were told no, a late checkout was not possible. I would imagine that if a maid entered your room after 11am and you had not vacated it, they would alert the front desk, and a charge would be added.

It is interesting that they do not have Do Not Disturb signs. I wonder why? An unexpected bill is what I am trying to avoid.

Good to know since I have had many people tell me about getting late checkouts at Disney before, with few of them being coworkers who I am going to Disney last minute with. I know a couple are a little on the slower side and take a while to get up in the morning. The fear of being charged a lot might get them going, but who knows. They are the ones who are adamant about getting a late checkout since they have done so in the past.

Even if it is before checkout time?

That has been my experience usually about 8am

But I do confess this has been at DVC resorts maybe the hotels rooms are a little better. However, it is the same staff and people in the Hotel rooms generally get their rooms earlier than DVC on check in so I doubt they are much different.

It is probably because DVC owners spend a lot of money and they want them to get their monies worth. Though, aren't you guys not allowed to check-in until 4pm? Isn't 8am a little ambitious of housekeeping? Then again, the way Disney is building and renovating DVC rooms, it seems as if there is a shortage of space somewhere.
