Late checkin to DLH

Hi everybody!

I've seen threads lately on early checkin, but I was wondering if anybody might know what to expect for a late checkin to the DLH?

We'll be arriving on a late Friday evening... driving from the San Jose area after the kids get out of school (around 3pm for what is hopefully a big surprise for them!). Even with DH "I can't drive under 80mph going down highway 5, the traffic once we hit LA will most likely be bad to awful. Anyhow, I figure we'll get there a 9pm at the earliest.

I've already called to let them know of our approx arrival time. We've got a standard room, with the PIN code offer, but have noted that it's DS's 6th birthday. Does this mean that we'll get the bottom-of-the-barrel what's left in terms of room category? Or, do they pre-assign rooms to guests?

Sorry, I should have explained that. A few months ago, some people were emailed or snail mailed a postcard that had a PIN code specific for their family that could be used for discounted hotel rooms. I already had a reservation, but was able to apply the PIN code to it for a better deal.

I don't know if they're still sending those out.

We used to get in late every year to DLH. Only once did we get a bottom-of-the-barrel room, and that was the first year when we didn't make any requests beforehand. Other than that year, we've always gotten the room type/tower we requested, even though we often arrive near midnight.

Also, you can pre-register the day of arrival--check your reservation and you should see in bold italics where it tells you how to do this. The reservation form is folded in thirds, and this information will be at the bottom of the upper third portion, underneath the confirmation info. You can call ahead 2 hours before before your arrival to pre-register. The number on mine is 714-300-7210, but we're staying at the GCH this year so I don't know if the number is the same.

We've checked in late at the GCH and the PPH. Both times we got GREAT rooms and had no complaints. I just let them know when I made the ressie and they noted it, then I called back when we were driving down and told them an approximate time. No problems either time.

Hmm, my reservation doesn't have that information about pre-registration. Perhaps it's because I have a room only reservation? What exactly, does pre-registration do for you?

When I mentioned DS's birthday, the CM I spoke with said that they would try to have something waiting in our room for him, so perhaps we'll have our room pre-assigned or better yet, upgraded.
