Late check in and room request

Hi! We are staying at OKW mid August and have already requested building 27 if available. I am concerned because we will be arriving late and I'm worried our request won't be available when we get there. We always request this building in advance and upon arrival must remind them of the request because they have assigned us to another building. So I don't really trust the request system. And arriving so late I'm concerned there will be no availability for the building we want. Has anyone else arrived late with a special request? Should I call the morning of our arrival to ensure our request is there? If so, who should I call DVC MS or OKW directly? Thanks!

I don't know if there is anyone you can call since I thought a request was just that, a request with no guarantee that it will be granted.

Whenever we have made requests, we just remind them at check in that we did and if they say they can't fill it (or didn't), then we say fine and take what they give us.

Our experience has been similar. We've had success when requesting 1st floor for medical reasons when taking Grandma, but other than that, we haven't gotten many requests. I don't know if they really pay any attention to them or not -- I suspect not.

If you can, you might try for the "near Hospitality House" booking category. If you get that, it is a guaranteed thing, although it could be one of a number of buildings.

I know it's just a request and nothing is guaranteed. But my concern is the late check in. I am thinking that if they do not recognize our request and give that building away throughout the day by the time we get there it won't be available. But it might have been in the morning. I just want to remind them in the morning, let them know we are coming, and that we would really like that building if it's available.

That's why I suggested the Hospitality House category if you are trying to be sort of in the middle of things, with a short walk to buses, pool, boats, etc. That booking category is guaranteed -- you will be in one of the buildings near HH.

If you just want to be in Bldg 27 because you like that location, then make your request and hope to get hit by lightning. But as you say, they do assign rooms throughout the day as they are cleared by Housekeeping, so the later you check in, the less likely you are to get Bldg 27.

You can always call them, but if you do, keep in mind that when you call you are just getting the central call center. You have to specifically ask for the OKW front desk and then confirm that you are actually speaking to the front desk. Otherwise, you're just talking to an operator who has no ability to help you.

Well thanks. Guess it will just be luck. We always get building 27 but we always arrive early in the day, usually before noon. So I guess we won't have any control over it, not being there until late evening.

Yes, last Thanksgiving at SSR. We arrived Friday before getting to SSR about 10pm. Had requested Congress Park, close to the Quiet Pool. Got exactly that plus the best view of DTD we've ever had .

BWV-Boardwalk view 2br, checking in Thursday before MLK day. Requested top floor. Checked in about 5pm, got a 5th floor villa.

Funny how everyone has such different preferences, I usually try to avoid bldgs 27 to 29 because of them being on the roadway, and no real view from the balcony. The OP is the first person I've ever seen post that they prefer that building.

Actually it is my father's favorite building because there is a bus stop very close by and if you miss the bus there you run across to the hospitality house and the bus will be there soon. I know it's a silly reason, but that is why he loves it. And we like being close to the main pool and grocery area as well. And from the third floor we have a view of the golf course which is pretty. But it's okay if many people don't like it, maybe then we will have a better chance at securing it.

Actually, those are pretty good reasons for liking the building. I do rememebr being able to see the busses and the DtD boat go by as I was looking out the front window in a studio.

But, I still like the Turtle Pond and South Point areas.
