We are arriving Friday night at 11pm at the Coronado Springs hotel. Will they give our room away? If so will we be upgraded? If anyone has had that experience please share!!!!

Thank you

If you made your reservation and put a deposit on your room, then they won't give it away.

I would call CRO and have them make a notation on your reservation that you will be arriving late.

If the hotel is overbooked you can be "walked." If and when that happens they are supposed to pay for that nights lodging and find you another room.

It does happen even at WDW. It usually works to your advantage.

Definitely let them know it's a late check in. A few months ago we checked into AKL at 12:40AM and still got our room.

Has anyone ever arrived in the wee hours of the morning (say 3:00 am-ish)? We may be leaving Saturday morning (we check in on Sunday and are driving from Cleveland) and would consider driving straight through if we feel up to it as long as we know we can check in SOMEWHERE when we arrive. We're staying at BCV on points so the room is already paid for. We can always call them when we're an hour or so away to 'warn' them we're coming.

Any thoughts?

Pam

Hotels do oversell, even at WDW.

But, as another poster pointed out, it can often work in your favor.

Generally you'll either be upgraded, or sent to a higher level of hotel. Usually they will allow you to either keep the upgraded room/room a the other resort for the length of your stay at no additional cost.

If you arrive at 3:00am you'll be charged for that nights lodgings.

A couple of years ago, DH and I decided to take a short trip to WDW without the kids. We booked a room at BC, and had them note that we would check in between 12 and 1 AM. With plane delays and what not, we arrived at BC to find that they did hold a room for us, but it was(in my opinion) one of the worst rooms in the resort! Very disappointing!

If you check in Sunday for a stay using points, don't expect a room before 4pm....even if you check in at 3am. DVC resorts are typically fully booked. This is a definite consideration if you are driving overnight. Personally, I recommend that if you'll be arriving in FL in the wee hours of the morning you should book a hotel for that night (Saturday). I've done Priceline for those situations and come out pretty well....or just book a cheap place off site to get some rest before arriving at WDW.

As to the original question....when we checked in to ASMo last week (early....6:30am or so...just wanted room cards so we could get into early entry...) they had trouble finding a room for us. The whole time the CM was on the phone I had my fingers crossed thinking "send us to a moderate, send us to a moderate" Turns out they were able to locate a room for us and it wasn't a bad location.....but we still had to stay at ASMo. This wasn't a room that was ready, mind you, they just couldn't find anything that was to be available even later! But, I was very impressed that our room (that probably had folks sleeping in it when we checked in) was ready for us by noon! The CM's at the All Stars do a great job...I just don't really like the resort itself.

Don't count on it. A few months ago I would say no problem, you'll have a room. Then I read a post from someone saying they had reserved a room at the Movies and when they arrived they had no room and was "lucky" to get into another A/S. WELL folks it happened to me just last week. Now mind you, we visit WDW 4-6 times a year and have NEVER had a problem. Here's the scoop:

We checked in at 4:00 PM at the Movies. Now normally we check in a little earlier, but since 4:00 PM is the normal check in time, we did some other stuff. Well to my surprise we were told that they could not accommodate us because we needed a non-smoking room and they gave them ALL away. Yes we had a GUARANTEED non-smoking room reserved as we were traveling with our asmatic grandson (who was currently being medicated for a sinus infection in addition to his other breathing probems). YES our guaranteed non-smoking room was given to someone else who wanted a preferred non-smoking room. OK, what is wrong with this picture. YES the deposit was paid and the reservation was made almost 1 year ago!!!

Not to worry, they took the liberty of moving us to the A/S SPORTS. Not my favorite All Star, the end of the resort in the Tennis section, the last room in the building facing the trees, third floor. We could not have been any further away then where we were. I'm still ticked and a letter will be written this weekend, after I get done with unpacking and chores (and working at my day job). Totally unacceptable. No excuse was given to us and the manager would not even come out to talk to us. The poor CM had to give us this news. I asked about being moved to another resort, but I was blown off.

So in the past I would say....SURE they'll hold you room. But you won't get that from me anymore. This was no way for them to treat a frequent guest, one with special medical needs, and an AP holder. I have heard others having the same problem recently.

Calling and telling them you will be checking in late really doesn't do anything. It might help at WDW but in the world of hotels it doesn't matter if you are Platinum with their frequent guest program. If they don't have room, they will walk you to another hotel. You could have paid in full for your stay and if you show up late there is no guarantee that a room will be available for you. You may be conducting meetings at that hotel and it would be extremely inconvenient for you to be staying elsewhere but they still don't have a room for you.

It is no different than the airlines overbooking. Some of the time at WDW you wouldn't have to worry about this but now with FTP and the hotels are full you might have to worry about it.

Disney at least has other hotels that they can move you to. So if you are arriving late at the busiest time of the room it can happen. So if you have your heart set on staying at that resort don't arrive late in the evening.

Getting to the hotel early is a good thing. Your room may not be ready but you will know that you have one.
