This will be the first time we are going in the heat of the summer, as it's the only time DH's family can go. Our DS will be nearing 2.5yo at the time. What tips or tricks have you come to learn works well to deal with the heat, etc?

My kids liked spray bottles. Grab a cheap one at home and pack it. In the am, fill it with ice from the ice machine and some water. Use the fine mist to cool them off.

Light colored, light weight clothes. Light blanket for nap time. Stroller (if you are using one) fan. And, Walmart has the small, poratable fans that you can wear around your neck. The blades are made of a foam material. Battery operated. We got 4 of them for under $10 and used them every single year. Worth their weight in gold!

Also, bring a few changes of clothes and a swim diaper or 3. That way you can strip his clothes off and let him play in the water spray areas. We spent lots of time in there. A few gallon sized plastic ziplocks...throw the wet clothes in there.

And, tons of sun screen.

And it's a given, but drink lots of water. We have a Disney-themed water bottle with a straw that DS-almost 2 loves, and we always take it to the parks.

You can also carry in your own bottled water or get free ice water (we think it tastes better than the Dasani they sell) at any of the counter service restaurants.

Also, plan on some longer indoor attractions (MK - Philharmonic, CoP; AK - Lion King or Nemo show; DHS - Little Mermaid, Disney Jr. shows; Epcot - Any of the country movies) during the mid-afternoon, or take a break and go back to the hotel for a nap or swimming.

Afternoon thunderstorms are also very typical in the summer, but usually move pretty quickly (and cause crowds to thin out a little). Take ponchos/raincoats in case you get caught in one.

We do August pretty often, next year will be with a 2.5 yr old in tow, but we stick to the basics.

Get out early in the a.m. to the parks, have a sit down indoor lunch at the park and then head back to the resort for pool/nap time. Basically, be out of the sun in the peak heat at 1-4.

We will typically head back to the parks at night around 5. Once the sun goes down, it's much better.

Often, we will walk through shops during the day as we go from place to place, because they are air conditioned. And remember that many of the rides have indoor queues so that helps.

We really like Frog Toggs and found that those helped to cool us down. We have the mister fans and use those as well.

And yes, LOTS of sunscreen!

Great thanks! The last time we went when he was 13 mo we were back at the hotel between 1-4pm anyway to let him get a good nap in, so this works out perfectly with the heat and hopefully skipping out on a storm! Not looking forward to the humidity :-P

We planned TS meals in addition to the above. Sitting down in an air conditioned area and having some down time really helped. Have fun!
