I am about to book my families first Disney cruise for August. The only date and rate that works for our budget is the 8/21/15 sailing. I am hesitant to book this date because I am worried about the weather at that time of the year. Anybody with any experience with sailing at this time of the year I know we cannot predict the weather but I just wanted to get a general idea.

Also, I am traveling with two teens of the opposite sex and need 3 separate beds I am thinking of booking a category 4D-how is this stateroom category?

Thanks so much:)

I have cruised DCL in August many times overall I would cruise at that time again, the weather in the main has been hot, and the water fine but there have been storms around.

Hurricanes can be around but the DCL ships will alter course or ports to avoid it, I have had Easterns become Westerns for example.

We have had storms at castaway but they have come and gone quickly and we then had an enjoyable time, it can be a bit humid not as bad as Florida but without a breeze noticeable.

Indications are next year is a low active hurricane season like this year but 2016 could be an active one.

Cat 4's are great rooms and a good choice.

Thank you this is the first cruise for the kids and I want them to have an enjoyable time.

We've cruised the last week of August the last 3 years. In 2012, aboard the Dream for a 5-night double-dip, there was a tropical storm (Isaac) to the south that caused some bad weather. Our sea day was pretty bad, windy and rainy. The next day at Castaway was sunny but really windy. It took the captian a long time to get the ship moored - almost didn't happen. In 2013, aboard RCL's Oasis of the Seas, the waether couldn't have been better. Everyone was remarking how incredible the weather was and how calm the sea was. This past August on the Fantasy, another storm (Cristobal) caused us to alter our route some out of Port Canaveral, so instead of St. Maarten being our first port of call, we ended up in San Juan. The rest of the cruise was unaffected and great weather. There is the potential for storms at that time of year, but we wouldn't hesitate to sail late August again - and intend to in 2015. In fact, we did have the Fantasy booked again for late August 2015, but just switched it to the Magic in Feb 2016. We're now looking at a southern Caribbean on RCL for that week.

We did the disney fantasy this past august (aug.23 for 7 nights). There was a storm around St.Maarten area, so the captain took us to Puerto Rico instead, which was great! Honestly, we didnt have one day of rain. Not one. Wait, im lying, i just remembered that at puerto rico it rained for about an hour. But thats it. Weather was incredible otherwise. I'd do the end of august again for sure! Esp since its a lot cheaper than earlier in the summer.

I had 2 teens in my group, and they had a great time!

We cruised this past Aug 30th Fantasy sailing to Western Caribbean and had great weather. One sea day it rained for about 20 minutes and then the sun came back out. Another day maybe 10 minutes and then done. It wasn't overly humid, stayed in the 80's all week and we loved it. We also stayed in a category 4D room and were very happy with it. We had 2 adults and 2 kids in the room. Plenty of room for us. Enjoy your cruise!

We have done four end of August cruises (4 of last 5 years). Only hit one true 'storm'. Of course it was hurricane Irene, but it was only one bad night. Little bits of rain here and there but it passes quickly.

Honestly in late August you are likely to see more rain at WDW in the late afternoon. And that rain just helps to clear out the parks. It isn't like you can clear out a cruise ship without going for a really long swim.
