Late August Visit

We were thinking of a stay in the final week of August...the last Saturday of the month...leaving the Saturday of Labor Day weekend.
I know it'll be brutally hot with a late-day thunderstorm. Can anyone else add any personal experiences about that time of year? Crowds, weather, overall thoughts?
Thanks!!

We've been twice before during the end of August and going again August 23-Sept 1 this year.

Yes, it's hot, hot, hot, but the first year we went in August it was no hotter in Florida than it was here in the Northeast that particular summer.

Crowds are very manageable. Our previous trips were over Easter or Thanksgiving and I'd take an August visit any day over holiday visiting. The smaller crowds made for a much more enjoyable trip.

We had a few thunderstorms during the week but they usually pass quickly. Just have a poncho ready and you're good to go.

Have a blast!

This past August was our first summer trip...we spent the last week of August, 8 nights, and left WDW on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend.

We had always gone in either Oct or Feb, and were already in the mindset that it would be very hot/humid and very crowded...wrong about the crowds!

Yes, it was hot and humid but with proper planning it never got to us. We took time to relax by the pool, and it seemed like there was always a place to duck into some A/C to cool off. I even carried a light sweater because I found it too cold in some places.

We dodged the afternoon rainshowers with no problems, and often it would rain briefly in one park but not in others. The rain was pretty hit or miss.

All in all, we found it a wonderful time to visit as the crowds were light and the parks were open later than the Oct/Feb timeframe we'd been going. If anything, we got to do so much more in the parks on this trip than others thanks to that.

I wouldn't hesitate to go in late August again.

Love August. We alway go towards the end of the month. This year were going Aug. 18-25. Want to go a week later but SIL has to go back to work that week.

Yes it's hot Bring water
Go back to the resort to regroup before hitting the parks at night
Yes it rains almost eveyday but not in the same places and not for long periods. Whhen it looks like a storm is coming go in an indoor ride. by the time you wait in line and enjoy the ride the shower will be over.

Crowds are definitley down because some school are back in session.

Have a great time

We're thinking of going the exact same week, and I was afraid of the same things. I was also afraid of the cost of the airfare to come home since it is a holiday weekend. Since my dh has off that week, and my dd2 will still be free, there are alot of pro's for us to go at that time. I know that it will be hot and that it will rain, but that will probably happen all summer long there.

Wow goo to know. We are going Aug. 22-29. I knew it was going to be hot and we always plan a mid day break. The crowd levels will hopefully make up for the heat.

We went the second last week of August, in 2004! The next year, we went at the end of July. What a difference in crowd levels!! August was way better! Only thing was we were lucky enough to go between Hurricanes Charlie and Frances.

We also went last year the end of august for ten nights and it was great. Ditto everyone else about the heat, but the crowds were fantastic. We usually go the first or second week and we were so happy we chose the end of august. We will probably go this time for now on.

We went last year at the end of August and also went that week 4 years ago. I concur with what everyone else is saying, but I wanted to add that last year we also got the added treat of FREE dining during that time too.

Not sure if they would do something like that again, but it was wonderful!!

The heat was really not that bad and I hate heat. The crowds were great. Plan to spend some time at the waterparks. It is great to enjoy the "cool" shark reef at TL when it's like 90+ degrees outside :goodvibes

ENJOY!! (squeeze me into your suitcase too :rotfl2: )
